More details about the $109 million U.S deal Ghana rejected:

1. It is reported that the deal would have required Ghana to hand over Ghanaians’ health data for 25 years, even though their aid would have lasted for only 5 years.

2. During that 25-year period, Ghana would not have been able to question how the data was being used.

3. It is also reported that part of the deal would have prevented the Ghana FDA from scrutinizing certain medicinal products from the U.S. In other words, if a product had already been registered in the U.S, the Ghana FDA would not have had to conduct further checks before it entered the Ghanaian market.

4. Beyond all this, Ghanaian officials were reportedly given just one week to sign the MOU.
