Andrew Scott may very well give the best performance you’ll see this year in Simon Stone’s powerful Elsinore, the story of actor Ian Charleson’s intense preparation for his role as Hamlet while battling AIDS. Olivia Colman and Peter Mullan are excellent in support, while Stefan Gregory’s score is beautifully understated. One of the longest and most sustained ovations I’ve witnessed in all my years at Telluride.
Real life and performance collide in Simon Stone's momentous, enthralling Elsinore. Deeply tragic but equally funny, it serves as a reminder of the difference of survival and truly living. Andrew Scott is earth-shattering. A beautiful way to end my first full day at Telluride.

Andrew Scott’s performance brought the house down at the world premiere. A deeply moving portrait of resilience and mortality. Olivia Coleman just absolutely crushes too. Going to be a beloved film this year, as it should be.
#Elsinore is a love letter to actors with an Andrew Scott performance for the ages. It's the role of his career. Olivia Colman has entered her Maggie Smith era and I love it. Stealth and powerful work from Billie Piper. The score rips. The heart is full. #Telluride
Andrew Scott gives a powerhouse performance in Elsinore, a beautiful tribute to Ian Charleson, the joy of acting, and the need to make the most of the time we have. Emotions abound.

Andrew Scott stars in ‘Elsinore,’ a dramatic film retelling one of the greatest ‘Hamlet’ feats in the history of the British theater: When Ian Charleson took on the role while dying of AIDS, ultimately succumbing to the illness less than two months after his final performance.
Scott delivers a totally unique, equally searing 'Hamlet' in character as Charleson, while also playing a defiant artist facing down the end of his life. He’s an out gay actor portraying a gay actor who came up in a time when being open could mean career suicide. And he’s a credited producer on a movie for the very first time.
Elsinore, which is directed by Simon Stone, written by Stephen Beresford and also stars Olivia Colman and Billie Piper, will screen at various festivals, including Toronto and London, before hitting theaters on November 20.
