A pleasure to meet with Sir Iain Duncan Smith, who was in North Cyprus recently as part of his ongoing campaign to support direct flights between the United Kingdom and North Cyprus. @MPIainDS
DUP MP Sammy Wilson has condemned Conservative MPs for “glaring hypocrisy” over their attacks on Afzal Khan’s visit to Northern Cyprus.

Andrew Pierce (along with other members of the British media) seemed to enjoy meeting with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar, yet now he disparages him, Khan and North Cyprus. Disgusting. https://t.co/QQ5bmwkTcR
Another example of hypocrisy relating to North Cyprus. In this rather nasty article, Andrew Pierce states that MP Afzal Khan "even agreed to be photographed grinning alongside Turkish Cypriot ‘leader’ Ersin Tatar". Here's Pierce (r) being photographed grinning alongside Tatar (l)
Did you know that since Ersin Tatar took office in 2020, 20 British Parliamentarians have visited the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus?
This includes senior figures such as former Foreign Minister Dominic Raab, and Ministers Wendy Morton, Leo Docherty, and Stephen Doughty.
So why are Greek Cypriot lobby groups now attacking Afzal Khan for doing exactly the same?
And have MPs like Wendy Morton, who themselves visited the TRNC, suddenly developed selective amnesia?
Dialogue should never be discredited - especially when the criticism is so blatantly hypocritical.
Wendy Morton celebrates Afzal Khan’s resignation.
Yet this was her in 2021 👇
In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, meeting President Ersin Tatar in the TRNC Presidency.
So as anyone can see it is common practice - and has been for decades - for ministers and politicians to visit the TRNC and meet with its leaders. To suggest there is anything wrong or "illegal" about this is laughable.
Hilarious hyprocisy on the part of @morton_wendy criticising Labour MP @AfzalKhanMCR for visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Here's Morton visiting the TRNC as a minister in 2021 and fist-bumping its President @ErsinrTatar
Shadow #Europe Minister @morton_wendy MP: ‘A government representative would never visit occupied Donbas or Crimea. So for Afzal Khan to unofficially visit occupied northern Cyprus is totally unacceptable’

I have demanded equal rights at the European Council Parliamentary Assembly.
Turkish Cypriot elected representatives should be entitled to have voting rights like the Greek Cypriot MPs. They are the one who had rejected all the previous unification plans and agreements. While they were being awarded as EU member, we are the one who are still penalized under restrictions & isolations! World is not fair!
TRNC President @ErsinrTatar has completed a short but productive visit to the United Kingdom.
He met over two dozen British parliamentarians alongside ambassadors as well as featuring on British TV and radio.

The #Paris2024 women's high jump final will feature Turkish Cypriot Buse Savaşkan, who can't compete under the flag of North Cyprus because of unfair embargoes. Meanwhile a Russian athlete, Elena Kulichenko, will represent "Cyprus" simply because her father invested there.
Lord @KilclooneyJohn 🗣️ "in 1974 Turkish Cypriots were getting murdered by their fellow Greek Cypriots and Turkey had little option to send in Turkish troops to rescue the Turkish Cypriots."

🚨 BREAKING NEWS
Former UK Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, states in the @Independent that a two state solution must be on the table.
It is time to end the isolation of the TRNC as we enter the 50th year since the Cyprus Peace Operation.
