on a related note, there's been some chatter recently about software engineering skills (eg the ruby/rust/elixir drama). i'm a bit torn because while i do feel like they're software engineering principles and patterns are still important, at the same time i wonder if there will come a point in time when they just won't matter anymore. not that they're no longer useful, but that your own intuition can fill in the gaps as you use agents in an intuitive sense rather than knowing explicitly what they're doing
if that doesn't make sense, the analogy i have is the first iphone. 20 years ago you had to be a professional with expensive equipment, now just with a phone and some creativity you can film content that's compelling to a new audience. i don't know if there's a term for this but i want to call it "skill compression". where what used to be gatekept and prohibitive to experts becomes accessible to a new audience of creators with a whole new meta. the details have sort of faded away and now the craft is not in knowing the equipment and how to use it, but how you use it creatively
we're going to see a whole new generation of builders who've never seen or written a line of code build incredible things
Lagos Life launched on October 1st. Just 9 days later, over 4.7 million people have played the game.
Today, I’m excited to announce that Vatar, the parent company behind Lagos Life, has closed a $500K angel round led by AB Hassan (@ijbguy), Nathan Nwachuku (@_KingNath), and GB Agboola (@TechProd_Arch).
Lagos is just the beginning. We’re building entire worlds, and there’s so much more to come. 🌍

Everyone who uses AI well is generally excellent in either written or verbal communication.
Every single one.
The programming language of the AI era is English. Invest in being articulate.
I am surprised that people are surprised this is how I prompt Claude.
Talk to Claude the way you would a coworker. There's no secret to prompting. There's no need to be overly scaffolded or prescriptive for most tasks -- give Claude a goal, and it will figure it out.
Back in the Sonnet 3.5 days, your prompt mattered a lot. Nowadays, it's much more important to communicate to the model:
1. What you want it to do
2. How much effort you want it to spend
3. How it should verify that it did the right thing
The problem with this is that before AI as a software engineer 70-80% of your job was writing code and if you were in a company or team where infra was someone else's problem then 100% of your job was writing code
Yes, the app was vibe coded(because it's just not possible to build a full game like that in a few hours the traditional way) but honestly who cares, the bar to building has basically evaporated with AI
If the app was beautifully engineered but nobody played it we wouldn't be talking about it today
Don't get me wrong, experience in the field helps(as it has helped her) but we're focusing on the wrong things, the question is no longer "How would you build" it's now "What will you build" and @Shalom_HeyEliy gave a beautiful answer to it
Anyways I'd pay good money to know her agentic workflow, it must be one hell of a setup
I just called Chungus (my OpenAI Dot) on the phone while picking up mexican food and asked it to transfer some Rex benchmarks from last night on my Mac Studio to my MacBook Pro via Tailscale and I just got to my desk and there they are. What a fucking time to be alive.

I'm building an LLM from scratch
Just posted Episode 2: Training an LLM from Scratch in Pure NumPy!
The goal of the series is to raise as much money as possible for cancer research.
So far, we've raised $18k for charity : )
Check it out and let me know what you think!
We have used Go for more than ten years and only update the dependencies when we feel bored. It is very stable and let you focus on your business instead of updating the deps every 6 month or unable to build.
Regarding the error, I believe Go instructs us to handle the errors they have, which is good because errors don't disappear when you change languages. In my opinion, wrapping it in an infinite wrapper makes it difficult to find the root cause of the crash. Just give it to me directly, as Go does.
1 MILLION PLAYERS. IN 3 DAYS. 😭🇳🇬👑
Guys, we actually did it.
Lagos Life just crossed 1,000,000 players in only 3 days.
And right now, 109,000+ people are playing at the same time.
5.7M+ visits today.
7.2M+ visits all time.
Three days ago, this was just a game I put on the internet.
Today, one million people have entered Lagos Life.
I genuinely have no words anymore. 😭
Thank you for playing, sharing, tweeting, inviting your friends and turning this little virtual Lagos into a city of its own.
1M down. 10M next. 👑🇳🇬🚀
Social media can do this really bad thing where it makes two people dislike each other even though they share the same world view
For example: I care deeply about performance, but my recent tweet about an operation taking 80 nanoseconds (and therefore being cheap) was misinterpreted by some as "This guy likes to make computers do unnecessary work, he's the reason why modern software is slow. Also he's a web dev lol".
And now suddenly, me and this person are on opposite sites of the discussion, despite actually WANTING the same thing (fast software)!
I have so many questions, but first massive congratulations, this is incredible, now to my questions:
-Were you expecting these huge numbers?
-How did you handle scale?
-What does it cost you to run this?
-What programming language did you use(I assume @threejs for frontend, but what about backend)
-What's the size of your team
Honest to God if you held a masterclass I'd be there like mad
@4mrxn@theo Pre-AI he's the type of person you'd be listening to, especially if you were just starting out so I would say it kinda does, and pre-AI Theo was also "just a tutorial guy" as well
