I love to read for fun. I also love to take every opportunity to learn, but I am not stressing about memorizing everything from every single book I read.
So I have this "model fitting" mindset:
Trying to absorb every detail from a book has to offer is not practical, and often prone to oversensitivity to noises. This is like overfitting.
The other way around, fliping through tons of books but failing to pick up anything useful is pointless. This is like underfitting.
I think my brain got this natural filter anyway. I just throw as much as information at it and let the good stuff stick. This is like feeding more data to the model would somehow guarantee a better fit as long as the data quality is not outright useless, of course. So I need to be picky about what I am feeding myself too.
Learning is like trying to find a model with a good fit for me
I kept trying to convince non-tech people around me how powerful AI nowadays is and will be but wasn't working so well. So I blasted this piece to them and may this article do the justice
(maybe only 10% of them would really read this)
Don't overestimate your ability to multi-task. What you thought was multi-tasking is actually just you alternating your attention at a very fast speed, so focus on one thing at a time
Had to let go of my old kindle oasis 3 because the battery was too crappy
Miss those page flipping buttons of oasis already, but new models come with usb-port instead of micro usb so a win is a win
One thing I would nitpick about this model though is that the power button is at the bottom of the device, which is not quite ergonomic
Occam's razor: The simplest explanation is often the best
When there are two possible explanations for an event, choose the simpler one. Avoid making too many assumptions and try to keep things as simple as possible
Thinking of all the shows I've gone to, I always take out my phone to record and think that some time later I can play the videos when feeling nostalgic or whatnot
The fact is I never pull up these videos. Next time I might just put down that goddamn phone and enjoy the show
So often we are told that we have to set goals so that we can work toward them, but action is just as important if not more.
Alright this is actually a reminder to myself: JUST DO IT
Falsifiability of a scientific theory by Karl Popper:
A theory is scientific only if it can be proven wrong.
Constantly proving right and verifying a theory won't strengthen it, but rigorously testing and trying to prove it wrong will.
