Dehydrogenation is often the endgame.
We see it as a stepping stone toward the net oxidation of C–H bonds!
Excited to share our latest Nature Communications paper with @YulabJin!
These natural products were isolated from fungi, plants in England, Netherlands, Taiwan and Spain. We need to make a few from Argentina too so we have both from the final in World Cup.
Remote site selective C-H oxidation via dehydrogenation led to efficient semisynthesis of 10 natural products isolated in Spain, England, Netherlands, Taiwan. Great collaboration with a Brazil team @eluccajr: https://t.co/WNwTontQv1
This strategy also unlocks the selective oxidation of sterically hindered C–H bonds, overcoming a long-standing challenge in C–H oxidation.
Congratulations to @victorstork for leading this outstanding work, and many thanks to all our collaborators!

By overcoming substrate-inherent reactivity through catalyst-controlled, switchable site-selectivity, we accessed oxidation patterns previously unavailable for total synthesis!
This strategy enabled the concise synthesis of 10 diterpenoids in five steps or fewer!
@MCWhiteGroup@MassimoBietti@MiquelCostas Building on this concept, we achieve improved step economy and synthetic ideality in late-stage oxidations of complex natural products.
New paper out! 🚀
Solvents are not spectators!
Congrats to @victorstork , Lucas, and Yasmin 👏

@MCWhiteGroup Activation of carbinolic C–H bonds via hyperconjugation with adjacent oxygen often leads to overoxidation.
@MassimoBietti and @MiquelCostas have shown how HFIP can reverse this tendency by flipping substrate polarity. Here, we extend this idea to complex natural products!
Congratulations to Prof. @afurst1@FurstLab and her team at @MITChemE for their paper, 'Self-Assembled Nanocoatings Protect Microbial Fertilizers for Climate-Resilient Agriculture' - winner of the 2024 @JACS_Au Outstanding Paper Award!

Great visit to UNICAMP in Brazil for symposium organized by former @MCWhiteGroup postdoc Prof. Emilio Carlos de Lucca Junior @eluccajr. Wonderful to see great talks by colleagues and get to know the next generation of awesome Brazilian chemists. Obrigado!
Obrigado for the wonderful introduction to #SOSECAB Member @eluccajr. We had the honor of him introducing the Thieme Lecturer @SPellegrinet and Science of Synthesis at the 19th BMOS (Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis) place in Bento Gonçalves.🇧🇷 Happy networking everybody!
