Back in 2001, when it pretended to care about the constitution (with built in term limits for Isaias) the government accused the G-15 of violating the constitution (without mentioning which articles), and the journalists of violating the Press Proclamation. Disappearing the only ones with Revolutionary Legitimacy* (G-15) to challenge him, and the only citizens licensed by law to expose it, September 18 allowed the Isaias government to lay the groundwork for a country without a constitution for a third of a century after independence, and without private press for nearly a quarter century. #Eritrea has this dubious distinction in #Africa. Backwards even by the standards of the world’s marginalized. Some consider this success. Some just shrug it off as The Way of Things in post-revolutionary countries. Some of us oppose.
