Withdrawing the senses is very literal if you've experienced it. You don't give attention to anything but your object until, like not touching your computer, everything shuts off.
I've had my hearing shut off while napping to podcasts and then coming back to the world. The body, then hearing, then the rest of it all.

@johnn_athann@BigolWave Most states have programs. You can request. You can go to places that serve them. If nothing else CVS has them for around $40. Consult google.
Vitamin E causes more than 3x more hair growth than finasteride. At some point you have to realize that the pharmacological solution is almost always:
1. Trying to cheat God
2. Causing various other negative downstream effects
3. Not even as effective
Hairloss and Vitamin E
In 2010, an investigation team wanted to determine if vitamin E supplements - specifically, tocotrienols and alpha-tocopherols - would help regrow hair for men and women dealing with general hair loss.
So, they set up the following study:
- 38 volunteers (men and women) with hair loss present for at least two months, ranging from “patchy” hair loss to more severe generalized thinning.
-Design: 21 volunteers were given vitamin E pills (100 mg daily); 17 volunteers were given a placebo pill (100 mg daily).
- Measurements: before-after measurements of hair counts and hair weight
After 8 months of supplementing, the investigators assessed the hair growth parameters for both the vitamin E group and the placebo group. The results were impressive.
The vitamin E group saw a 34.5% increase in hair count. And the placebo group? A 0.1% decrease in hair count!
To contextualize just how impressive these results are, finasteride (the gold-standard treatment for male pattern hair loss) increases hair counts by ~10% over a two-year period. So, a 34.5% increase in hair count over eight months is - to put it crudely - 3x the results in less than half the time.
So, does that mean that every hair loss sufferer should start supplementing with vitamin E?
Not necessarily. In fact, there are a few issues with this study that make its results much less impressive than it may seem

this is an interesting point in the new ted chiang piece – no one really claims that alphafold is conscious, or that sora or midjourney or dall-e are conscious
From a Ray Peat-inspired bioenergetic perspective, true metabolic health focuses on efficient cellular energy, strong thyroid function, higher CO2 production, and lower stress hormones like cortisol and excess estrogen.
In this light, Hennessy Kool-Aid Pickles stand out as an unexpected but aligned option. This sweet-tangy preparation supplies usable sugars, supportive acids, and a gentle relaxing quality without dragging down energy.
The Kool-Aid sugars provide glucose and fructose that promote oxidative metabolism. Fructose helps bypass energy pathway blocks, supports ATP production, raises metabolic rate, and reduces reliance on stress hormones while protecting against lactic acid buildup.
The vinegar in the pickle base aids digestion, nutrient absorption, and blood sugar stability. This mild acidity helps favor cellular respiration over fermentation and adds satisfying volume without problematic fats or starches.
A small amount of Hennessy contributes grape-derived antioxidants and a calming effect that can lower cortisol, supporting parasympathetic balance and warmth in the system.
Together they create a pro-metabolic synergy: readily oxidizable carbs that boost mitochondrial function and CO2, better digestion paired with sugars for flexibility, and reduced stress signaling that limits inflammation and fat storage. The result is a pleasurable snack that delivers energy and satisfaction while aligning with energy and structure principles. Many report feeling clearer and less driven by cravings.
To prepare, drain good dill pickles, mix with Kool-Aid or preferably fruit juice and sugar, add a measured splash of Hennessy, and marinate in the fridge for 24-48 hours. Orange, cherry, or tropical flavors work especially well.
This offers a practical bridge for optimizing thyroid activity, progesterone, and metabolic rate while enjoying real foods. ✨️✨️✨️
“Hypothyroid people have been given EEGs which show that they never can get into deep restful slow wave sleep. They stay in superficial sleep which isn't restful and even worse than that, they often have insomnia and have trouble going to sleep because when your nerves or your muscles are not producing enough energy fatigue accumulates and they're unable to relax. It's the same thing as the Achilles reflex test. You're slow to relax any cell, any muscle or nerve, and when you get fatigued, your brain needs thyroid to relax.“
- Ray Peat
@AromanticAutist A 2025 network meta-analysis published in Frontiers in Nutrition evaluated data from 1,658 patients and found vitamin E to be one of the top remedies for increasing total hair count.
@JayJohn65482569 Yeah the body is a living system that's entirely energy moving around doing complex stuff. If you don't have the raw materials to do the functions the bandaid solutions aren't much benefit, and also come with a million side effects no matter how small.
In the literature zinc deficiency causes high aromatase activity. Zinc lowers CYP19A1 which makes aromatase. It also makes it harder for testosterone to enter aromatase to convert to estrogen. Zinc has also been used to treat hypogonadism and various other things.
Beyond "sufficiency" it doesn't seem to do much. And in the 100s of mgs/day over months it probably throws some stuff off. For instance it competes with copper, and also increases MT which binds copper to excrete it.
Zinc (other than severe deficiency) probably isn't acting as strong as typical AI's. Diminishing returns.
"Zinc is a 5AR inhibitor!" At what level? Oh at 150 to 300 times the normal blood amount? I think I'll have some other issues I'll encounter before then. For example: dying.
