I think I glimpsed a Brambling in amongst the Chaffinch flock...? A good Winter in the #Cotswolds for this fabulous finch in the Cotswolds - never mind so many birds in sumptuous plumage - and pleasing to find birds in five locations. A rare treat! #GlosBirds
Jack snipe was the star of my Frodsham Marshes walk this morning, flushed as it was roosting on the main track. Good numbers of thrushes about, a nice change from last year where fieldfares felt scarce down South. @CAWOSBirding@HalfSnipe
Huge sting against illegal bird trapping in #Lebanon
We shut down an industrial-scale trapping 'farm' nr Aabdeh, dismantling 55 mist-nets (= 3000m2) - the largest single facility we've seen in our 50yr history.
est. catch in peak migration: 1,000-1,500 migratory birds DAILY!
What to do with an hours light after work? Well I'm glad I used it in the car park last Ham Walls RSPB tonight, with this unusually showy Ring Ouzel. Made the right choice for a change....
Been a funny autumn for waders in the Midlands, not too much in terms of volume but some pretty mega experiences with a handful of scarcer species. Have really enjoyed testing out the Canon R7 on some closer subjects too.
A week on from #StormAmy 🌬️ data from our tagged Whoopers show both storm assistance & displacement. Some birds made rapid migrations, others battled the elements – some out at sea for 55 hrs! As North Atlantic storms grow more frequent, understanding their impact is vital. 🦢
Great morning at @RSPB_BurtonMere today. Failed quiet on the scrapes but plenty still to see. A kestrel by the visitor centre entertained me as well as the cronking ravens and small birds visiting the feeder. @CAWOSBirding@wirralbirdclub
Quick lunch trip to @RSPB_BurtonMere to ask about volunteering, had time for a little stroll close to the visitor centre. Loads of swallows, yellow wagtails with the cattle and a surprise redstart. @CAWOSBirding
