I saw a post saying: “55% of 18-24s have already opted out of their workplace pension. Those with the most time to let money compound are walking away from free employer cash. Worst decision they’ll make?”

I didn’t repost, as the stat confuses me. Pension auto-enrolment only starts at age 22, if you earn £10,000+ a year. So for 18-21s, there isn’t usually an 'opt-out' situation.

BUT...the underlying point is important. If you’re under 22 and earn over £6,240 a year, you can choose to opt IN to your workplace pension - and your employer then must usually contribute to it too.

And in some cases, especially say if you're living at home with parents, so have lots of disposible income, its a fantastic thing to do. You get extra money from your employer and it has HUGE time to grow before you retire.

The inspiration behind David Bowie’s “Heroes” came in 1977 during the recording sessions for his self-titled album.

Bowie was working at the Hansa Tonstudio in West Berlin, located right next to the Berlin Wall. One day, while looking out the window, he saw his producer Tony Visconti kissing passionately with Antonia Maass, a German singer who was participating in the sessions. Since Visconti was married at the time, Bowie kept the secret for years and initially presented the inspiration as an anonymous couple.

That image of forbidden and courageous love in the shadow of the Wall inspired the lyrics: two lovers meeting by the wall, stealing a moment of passion despite the guards, the weapons, and the oppression of the Cold War.

The song celebrates those small acts of everyday heroism, of being “heroes” if only for a day. The title appears in ironic quotation marks, highlighting the greatness of the ordinary in extraordinary circumstances. The song was co-written with Brian Eno and features the iconic guitar riff recorded in a single take by Robert Fripp of King Crimson.

The vocal recording is famous for the innovative technique of using three microphones at different distances, which causes Bowie’s voice to build dramatically until it becomes a scream.

Over time, it became one of David Bowie’s most iconic songs.
