There have been floods and landslides in Nuristan, in northeast Afghanistan, since yesterday evening. Our staff are pulling together relief packages of blankets, food, first aid supplies, and hygiene supplies. We are going to make some specific packages for women that include feminine hygiene supplies, and packages for infants with diapers, baby wipes, and infant formula. We will of course send first aid kits for animals and assist to the best of our ability, but I stress this is a small scale effort. It is all we can do. But we must assist in the small ways we can.

Our staff are heading out tonight, in less than 8 hours. Our goal is $5000 and we've raised over $1000 so far. Please help in any way you can.

We started out with two rabbits.

Don't worry, we are responsible rabbit caretakers--the males are neutered (and separated from the females until they're neutered, we've got a few in line now), and none of ours have accidentally had baby bunnies. As cute as they are, two rabbits can become two hundred rabbits obscenely quickly.

Our most recent rabbit intake includes this beautiful albino girl, Lara, and we were told by the person who surrendered her that she is pregnant, but have not been able to confirm with ultrasound yet. We're hoping that she's not full of what I'm sure would be very adorable babies.

Over the next couple weeks, we really need to work on giving these rabbits more species-appropriate habitats. The same staff member who designed our monkey enclosure has been working on plans to enclose a large balcony for this express purpose, and with our last renovation project wrapped up (sneak peaks tomorrow!), we need to barrel forward on this!
