Trigger warning ⚠️
This is a stillborn baby with birth defects likely caused by mercury poisoning passed from the mother to the baby during pregnancy. Mercury exposure can lead to consequences for unborn children like organ deformities, brain damage and even death. This is what illegal mining is doing to our communities. #StopGalamseyNow #BrownMonday
Water crisis
Galamseyers fighting for territories
Galamseyers trying to disarm a security officer
Galamseyers armed with guns
Babies being born with deformities
Kidney disease on the rise
Rivers drying up due to illegal mining
Illegal miners diverting rivers to their mining sites
This is ENVIRONMENTAL TERRORISM #StopGalamseyNow
You’re in Accra, you think “oh, no gold is mined here so I’m safe”. Haha, stop deceiving yourself!
These regions where Galamsey is done are also the same regions that host bulk of our farmlands.
Underground water also travel!
Now, THINK ABOUT THAT!
#StopGalamseyNow
So, after you have destroyed the land and poisoned the water bodies for selfish gain, what comes next? Are we planning to start a 'Mercury-Flavored Tilapia' franchise?
The foreigners you are so desperate to please refuse to touch their own natural resources because they understand the long-term risks. Yet, we allow our own heritage to be gutted for a quick payout.
It is a level of short-sightedness that defies logic, even Nabal would seem wise by comparison. At least Nabal had the decency to be foolish in a desert; he wasn't trying to turn his only drinking water into a chemistry project.
We must put a stop to illegal mining today!
You are not just degrading the environment; you are poisoning yourselves, your children, and every generation yet to be born. Unless the plan is to evolve into creatures that breathe toxic dust, this isn't going to end well.
When the gold is gone and the soil is toxic, you cannot eat money, and you cannot drink gold, and trust me, no amount of bling looks good on a person who is thirsty.

The environmental costs of galamsey far outweighs any “temporary benefits” if we all knew the true cost of what this will do to our climate and biodiversity and how that damage directly affects our food systems, water security, public health and livelihoods we would stop debating it’s justification all together.
We already do not have a well-equipped healthcare system nor do we have the financial capacity to restore our destroyed waterbodies! We do not have the capacity to manage a surge in heavy-metal poisoning cases, waterborne diseases, and pollution-related illnesses.
Doctors and nurses who are already underpaid will be even more burdened with the scary health crisis.
Illegal mining in Ghana is already increasing the operational costs of Ghana Water, which is why water is being rationed in many communities and, in some places, does not flow through taps at all. It is also one of the reasons Ghana Water proposed a 280% tariff increase to the PURC, which was eventually reduced to 15% in January.
As rivers become too polluted to treat, the country will be pushed toward importing water. This will drive an increase in water tariffs that will be passed down to you and I. Something you and i can not afford with the kind of salary a lot of people already earn.
And the burden doesn’t stop there. Rising water costs, worsening health outcomes from heavy metal exposure, declining agricultural productivity, and increased food prices will deepen inequality and poverty. In the end, it is you and I that will be forced to face the burden of “champagne for a few” #StopGalamseyNow
We are paying for being the largest producer of gold because a lot of our gold is illegally mined.
Ghana is facing an environmental crisis spearheaded by environmental terrorists and corruption. More than 60% of our waterbodies is contaminated by illegal mining.
Rivers are brown, water treatment plants are shutting down, and entire communities are facing water shortages. The pollution doesn’t stop at our environment, it is poisoning our people, contributing to birth defects, kidney failure, cancers , tremors, neurological disorders and other heath crisis.
This environmental terrorism is enabled by corruption at institutions mandated to protect our environment. Our EPA has been ineffective at regulating and protecting our environment. Some DCEs are alleged to be protecting mining concessions. While Foreign nationals are actively involved in illegal mining using fake work permits a situation enabled by the failures within our immigration service.
We are facing an existential threat to our lives. #StopGalamseyNow
