Being “affordable” is a quick race to the bottom. You’ll be working for peanuts, so you won’t be able to pay other people ethical wages.
Taking the “I want to be affordable” argument to its logical conclusion has us all begging for scraps.
fuck that.
“I want to be affordable to people!” is a losing argument for service providers and biz owners.
I’ve had clients tell me $375 is too much for a cover letter and then book a package golf lessons at $400 per hour.
Respectfully, most of your friends and family members have no idea what it costs to run a business or how one formulated one’s rates. Stop listening to people who have never done what you’re doing.
You will never be “affordable” or “accessible” to everyone.
This can be especially hard to hear for folks who make the largest salary in their family.
You need at least 3 (ideally 7) streams of income. It is so difficult to negotiate salary raises when you DEPEND 100% on your job!
Financial security is not going to come in the form of a 9-5.
Having 100% of your income come from ONE SOURCE is not financial security.

You can also do this with Twitter lists! On Twitter, it’s easy to miss specific and super helpful content bc of viral retweets and trends.
Make a secret list that’s focused on a topic, and then add experts to it. Then, you can select that list and learn about specific topics!
🔥 HOT TIP 🔥
Facebook groups are underrated 👀
I’m in a TON of Facebook groups on specific topics I want to learn about, from personal finance to sewing to rollerskating to international travel 😂💖
Highly recommend you search FB groups for topics you’re interested in and then join those groups! As you engage with specific content, more like it pops up in your newsfeed – and you learn a lot! 🤓
It makes it much more difficult to critique your employer’s actions and negotiate a salary increase. You must be able to define and share yourself // your value outside of your job. 💖💖💖
🔥 HOT CAREER TIP 🔥
One of the biggest mistakes you can make in your professional life is entangling your identity with that of your employer.
Allowing your job title to become a defining characteristic of **YOU** makes protecting your boundaries much more difficult.
I advise my clients to send a "CYA Email" after every. dang. meeting.
Recap what decisions happened and your next steps. Documentation will save your ass AND it helps ensure proper communication.

🔥 Hot Take: 🔥
Clients who use the word “deserve” when discussing a raise often have really terrible boundaries with their work/managers.
It’s real hard to put up boundaries when you’ve been a doormat, professionally. Often, folks have to change jobs.
