@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService I refused to cut the call. Stayed with them until they got my friend out. Even when they said they had her, I refused to believe until I spoke with her on their phone because hers had died. I think our security systems need to up their game.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService I later got a call from them that I was all over the waves & if I was the one in distress. I said no. In fact, the team that called me had been asked to call to check on me because they thought I was the one in distress. They had been dispatched to the area and were almost there.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService Eventually, one in fact two of the numbers worked and they called the fire service amongst others. The security service asked how I managed to call all the security numbers. Apparently even when the answering machine picks up, it records your number.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService All this while, I had her on the phone because she had cried so much. Cars were washing off, one or two people were also carried into the drain. Her car was halfway submerged. She couldn’t drive and getting out was deadly.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService I was the closest to her and I live far away in Tema. I tried every number I knew, called NADMO from Eastern Region to get a contact in Accra as their numbers were not working. I called the BNI, I called every person I knew was in emergency services.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService She had tried all the emergency numbers but none worked. So she sent a desperate call to our year group WhatsApp platform. (Very important to be checking WhatsApp updates on platforms. ). A friend saw the distress call and called me immediately.

@Amegaxi @GhPoliceService Sorry you went through that. A year ago, we had a downpour in Accra and a friend was was in a very bad situation. Right before her eyes, two cars were washed off into a drain around the Kasoa area. She saw her life slipping away as she couldn’t move her car.
