According to this young lady Shirley Chisholm wrote about Caribbean immigrant families receiving opportunities in New York that many Black Americans whose families were already here were denied.

Housing policy wasn’t neutral. Access to neighborhoods, property, and opportunity helped determine who got to build wealth and who didn’t.

So when people act like every Black American experience is interchangeable, they’re erasing how lineage, immigration, and government policy created very different starting points.

That conversation is overdue.

There are African nations sitting right next to each other that don't mess with each other. So how are you going to demand Black Americans "unite" with the whole diaspora when the diaspora isn't united with itself?

This was never about Black Americans hating anybody. It's about a simple truth nobody wants to say out loud: everybody gets to prioritize their own; Haiti, Nigeria, Ghana, but the moment Black Americans do the same, suddenly it's "divisive."

Focus on your own. We'll focus on ours.
