In my article titled: “Cyprus and the British bases: a strategic reassessment” (Sunday Mail @cyprusmail, 29.3.2026),
I assert that #Cyprus is no longer a passive strategic asset, but a state increasingly exposed to risk—not least because of the #UK bases on its soil.
For decades 🇨🇾 was treated as an “unsinkable aircraft carrier.” Nuclear weapons were deployed during the Cold War. The March 2026 strike made clear that geography now confers not only reach, but vulnerability.
The paradox is clear: the same infrastructure that enhances strategic value can also increase exposure — especially when key decisions are taken elsewhere.
This is not a rejection of partnership with the UK. It is a call for recalibration within a European security framework, where the security of Cyprus is understood for what it is: security of Europe.
