We present A Fresnel Model for Coated Materials at Eurographics this year, where we propose an analytical RGB model for rendering coated conductors. Our method provides improved accuracy of Fresnel reflectance in BRDFs. I'll be presenting this paper Wednesday at 9:00 in Megaron A
@guitio2002@JasperBekkers Thanks! Blogpost will come, there's a couple of things I'm not yet satisfied with, especially when emission is involved. Don't expect it to be fully physically based though π
@guitio2002@JasperBekkers Hi @guitio2002 , indeed indirect rays are traced from within the volume to collect environment contributions, transmittance is accumulated during those traces, and emission is integrated. It all goes to improve the MS approximation. Irradiance cache used when shading the hits :)
Volumetric shadows are in, accompanied by impressive GI improvements courtesy of @dbalthazr!π«£
Emission disabled on the second looping :)
Next big challenge is to have the fire lighting up the scene π₯
@JavaCoolDude Ray marching through a VDB-like structure. Shadow traces decoupled from main trace, sky + gi contribution cached at lower res, multi-scattering approximated analytically for both contributions.
It's all a bit yeehaw π€ but it works nicely for a subset of volumes.
@Pjbomb2@dbalthazr For what you're seeing on screen, if I recall correctly the volumetric pass was taking 8-9ms. The video was captured at 1440p on a 2080Ti
π π₯ Final blog post of the year! @dbalthazr Explains a whole bunch of tricks he pulled to get our Global Illumination system looking as sweet as it does! https://t.co/EnyPyPV71B
πCheck out our latest blog post by @EmilioLaiso and @R__Winther at Traverse Research, exploring our approach to real-time volumetric rendering with Breda. β We'll go over the fundamentals of the data structure, sampling and rendering techniques βοΈ https://t.co/ItVDwUJpsi
This year will be the first year in the history of Traverse Research that we'll have a booth at the GDC Expo! Please come and say hi if you're visiting!
Traverse Research is at SIGGRAPH Asia this year! Please come and say hello! We'll be talking about our neural materials and generally interested in meeting industry folk!
We wrote a small blog post about the kind of things we've been doing lately too.

Very proud to have helped set this up! Kamen and Pete showed a lot about ISPC, how it's used in practice and explained low level details about ISPC and SIMD. Thanks @j_bikker for hosting!
@manon_gfx_magic I think you can select all meshes and then go to Object -> Join :) Tested with 3 cubes in blender 3.0, shouldβ’ work for bistro as well π
Two years ago I discovered scholarship arguing that AI is creating a new colonial world order. The idea haunted me & pushed me to investigate. Today I begin to release my findings: a culmination of reporting across five continents. Hereβs my introduction. https://t.co/NlPAQDVpuR
I refuse to be delegated to the "skeptics box" in someone else's framing of a debate. Here is my response to @stevenbjohnson 's NYT Magazine article about LLMs and OpenAI.
