California Democrat policies and Newsom have raided the rainy day funds and have $245 billion in total unfunded liabilities across California’s public employee pension systems as of 2025–2026. Not included here: Retiree health benefits (OPEB) are separate. The state’s net OPEB liability alone was recently reported at ~$77.8 billion. The only solution new taxes. Sacramento is fiscally irresponsible.
