Last week, I defended my dissertation and received my PhD @CUHistoryDept!🎉 So grateful for the feedback from my committee, and for the support of so many friends and colleagues over the past 7 years.

Next up: I’ll be joining @PrincetonAAS as a postdoctoral researcher this fall!

@DominiqueJL15 I loved teaching NYC history with this book. Such specific character portraits that students latch on to, and can be used to illustrate larger tends of demographic change, deindustrialization, public funding, etc.

I learned that one of my middle school US History teachers, Mr. Browne, passed away unexpectedly last weekend. As I’ve been finishing up my PhD, I’ve been reflecting a lot on the importance of K12 History teachers - particularly those in rural, public school districts like mine.

In teaching about the past, my K12 History teachers helped me understand the world beyond my small town and imagine myself in it. Engaging teachers like Mr. Browne showed all students that the past was inhabited by people like us, not just a series of names & dates to memorize.
