It is important for a library's data use policy to be clearly stated in multiple locations. Patrons often become frustrated when I can't provide titles checked out over the phone, but when I explain the WHY, they usually get it. #INFO246w74

@tgmlis I agree! We have found that a "one size fits all" approach really doesn't work for all of our community members. Anecdotally, when I was teaching citizenship and ESL classes, it seemed like word of mouth was the greatest promoter.

@laceykatx Hi Lacey, I agree. A lot of our patrons use an Alias for the Holds Shelf to ensure greater privacy, but the onus shouldn't be on them to come up with a solution.

@rebeccasjsu I like the idea of opt-in, which our library requires to view your checkout history, but it would be most helpful to have a simply-worded data use policy.

@librarianshabs That's a great point and one that I think our team often overlooks. Our Marketing team did just change its department name to Communications and has been working on this, though.
