I hope the future of social media is one that increases equity & removes barriers. Social robots, healthcare devices, the Loon balloon, and VR/AR in medicine make me optimistic for a future where technology and social media are used to create a happier world. #INFO246w81
In my area, demographic metrics would help libraries measure their attempts to reach new refugees. Facebook Insights' language tracking could help our libraries gain a better understanding of these community members, their info needs, and how best to reach them #INFO246w718
@laceykatx Totally agree! The distinction between “reach” and “engagement” can be very informative. I like how you positioned this around seeing value in the content. That highlights the head & heart dichotomy of web 2.0 🧠💕
@sjsu_chelsea This is such a great point! I didn’t realize that grant funding could be a reason for such questions on card applications. Can certainly see how this could be invasive, especially for young people. Do under 18 apps ask for gender, too?
@DrLarrySJSU While this was coming from a good place, she wanted to better serve this population, I didn't feel comfortable turning the history on without getting informed consent. Which was hard to get! But we never know someone's history or how data could be used against them 🤔
@DrLarrySJSU Opt-in indeed! Working with patrons with memory loss in care facilities presented some issues for me. Patrons often couldn't remember what they had read and my trainer told me to automatically turn the history on so we could identify books patrons hadn't read. (1/2)
52% of US adults have opted out of a product due to privacy concerns (Pew). Libraries are a beacon of privacy with an ethical responsibility to protect patron data. Libraries must fully understand how patron data is used by vendors, such as Libby, to ensure privacy is maintained.
My community engages in a creative campaign on social media to promote new reads and programming. Each week sees #bookfacefriday where staff complete a book cover in a photo. Posts highlight inclusive reads and encourage viewers to get involved. #INFO246w620
Have a great summer, students! If you're looking for cool events throughout the summer, we have Summer Reading activities, challenges, and programs that are guaranteed to be a fun time. #BookfaceFriday

@WattsInANameSJS Funny library memes are my favorite! Library Twitter seems to be a safe, fun, and inclusive environment that aims to bring positivity to viewers. @thememeinglib is a great follow!
Hi all! My name is Tobi, and I live in Spokane, WA. Spokane is on the east side of WA state, 15 min from Idaho. We get all 4 seasons, including winter! #INFO246w66
@cindytrang_sjsu Hi Cindy! 👋🏼 Nice to meet you! I grew up down in Diamond Bar but moved out of state. Garden Grove was always my favorite place to get pho. It’s $17 a bowl where I live now
