🚨Report: Oklahoma University Professor Mel Curtis has failed a student named Samantha Kay for quoting from the Bible in her essay based on gender roles
it does use up a lot of water, but that would be water worth using if it was primarily being used for medical advancements like this instead of military operations and writing emails
whoever started the ‘AI consumes absurd amounts of water’ narrative ended up creating one of the most persistently damaging misconceptions that the public has internalized
LLMs are bad but the worst kind of artists are the ones who perform "process." Daniel Day Lewis disappearing to vacation resorts in Bora Bora or the Amalfi Coast and calling it "method." No novel takes years to write. Time is a marketing tool. It's a way to cultivate mystique.
some conservatives do read (plenty of books are more conservatively bent & plenty of bookstores are religious) but if you are interested in reading you are already more open to learning new ideas, gaining understanding, and basic empathetic thought than the standard conservative
@oplop29@starswheeled I'm going to say this gently and then leave it at that. Based on this conversation, you are telling me you don't realize when you have seen propaganda. Because of that you have fallen for some of it yourself. Anything that paints morality in broad strokes is probably propaganda
@oplop29@starswheeled YOU brought up the british empire, not me. I'm just saying there are many, many instances of capitalists thinking it was necessary to kill people. Like capitalism drives something like this: https://t.co/YUSMo8GQ9x
@oplop29@starswheeled Hey buddy, you're the one saying the English did great things. I'm just saying a movie singing about how bad one political group is, that paints people who support that political group and demons, is propaganda.
@oplop29@starswheeled uh, the british empire was also very bad, and that was driven by capitalism and colonialism. If we're just talking about the horrors that happened in Europe, many Irish people were starved by the English.
@oplop29@starswheeled This is an interesting take considering capitalists regularly deem the death of children as necessary. The genocide of the native American and brutal enslavement of Black individuals are two examples of American capitalist thoughts that lead to the death of many people
@oplop29@starswheeled in the movie they sing a song about how communism is evil, so the goal of that song was to convince kids that communism is evil, ergo it is anti-communist propaganda for children.
@sailorHorchata@turntineforwhat If you are triggered by the mention of the term sexual assault, you would absolutely be triggered by discussing a text that discusses rape. At that point that person would need to discuss that privately with the professor, not expect the whole class to avoid the topic
@turntineforwhat while language obviously adapts and grows, it is concerning that so many people are comfortable self-censoring. Like best case scenario is what happened with you, worse case is people just stop talking about hard topics because the words get progressively sillier
When I was a senior they tested out the "everyone has a device" on my AP lit class, & we all got ipads. My math teacher put the math textbook on it and that was incredible because I didn't have to lug my textbook around anymore. Every other teacher didn't do anything with it
the issue with everyone has a device is that the have never utilized the devices in a way that would actually be helpful, and instead it offered just a distraction to actual learning.
“Although it once seemed like a good idea to give every child his or her own device, it’s clear that those policies have been a failure.”
💯
School-issued laptops distract students at school and home, expose them to things they shouldn’t see, and hurt learning.

see I think of "be gentle with yourself" to be more like...don't beat yourself up if you mess up the small things. Would you give grace to others if they messed up? Then give yourself that same grace and move on. I agree we should push ourselves tho!
my most boomer take is that being endlessly gentle with yourself all the time and never forcing yourself to do anything you don’t want to do isn’t self care it’s lazy and it’s bad for you
@bitchin1283e@spinneretmj https://t.co/MWGwJukQFN who is talking about tom riddle? Slytherin thought that muggle born students shouldn't be allowed to join Hogwarts, only picked "pure blood" students for slytherin, and 95% of the students who are slytherin are nazis or nazi sympathizers
