The Lionesses have also successfully managed to get me to put my metaphorical pen to paper and get back to doing some writing, so I jotted down some thoughts last night following that little football match over the weekend. https://t.co/DAIyhSvr1s
Ugh the Super Bowl is such a display of excess on every front. The cost of tickets means those attending can do things like fly an hour on a private jet and fly back again. Major sports leagues, celebrities & billionaires are literally the ones who can make a difference here.
When you say “my parents worked hard to give me a good education” you’re saying two things.
• State education, which I am in charge of, is bad and should be avoided at all costs.
• If you’re a parent who can’t afford to do that, you aren’t working hard enough for your kids.
"The Premier League is still in a dominant position in global football" ⚽
Why are the Premier League still on top despite Manchester City losing a place in the Deloitte Money League? 💷
🏆 And finally for the first time since the 2017/18 season, Real Madrid take the top spot as the highest revenue-generating club in world football with record revenues of €831m.
⚽ One of these new investments includes focusing on accelerating the professionalisation of their women’s team. We've seen average revenues generated by 15 of the biggest women’s clubs in European football increase by a huge 61% year-on-year. https://t.co/LPdIGAvRrg
It’s been ONE hour and I am already so frustrated with the ACL discourse.
Doing more research on women’s injuries is great, sure. But it would be more productive for everyone if everybody read the research there already is and clubs put better practices in place based on that!
Don’t think we should be giving an irrelevant person chatting rubbish for attention any more space on the timeline, so why don’t we fill it with our favourite women working in men’s football? I’ll go first:
Sue Smith, Lucy Ward, Karen Carney, Jules Breach, Alex Scott 👏
Oh no. Might seem crazy but lots of people have this view.
Yes they're different games, but as a female, that doesn't mean I don't know about the men's game. Equally doesn't mean men don't know about the women's game.
To divide 'who knows most' by gender is very dangerous.
Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious.
It’s a completely different game.
If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently.
The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see.
I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena.

🆕🧵The government have responded to Karen Carney’s review and have accepted the recommendations laid out in July.
This is a BRIEF overview and summary of SOME of the key points outlined but it is not extensive of the entire review:
"We're so grateful that 1000s of people want to come and meet us. But if that's the expectation then we're always going to fall short"
Well put. Players now have an impossible task of making every fan wanting an autograph happy. Clubs need to find a way to take that pressure off
Four NWSL clubs are bringing in more than $10m in revenue in 2023 (per Sportico).
Three of them were founded in the last three years – ACFC, Wave, KC Current.
These franchises are quite literally some of the best startups in all of sports, & their investors are being rewarded.
Earlier this week I attended #LeadersWeek kick-off event on Monday - the Leaders in Sport Diversity Series at Google 👏
Amazing to listen to the likes of Eni Aluko, Azeem Rafiq and Kenny Annan-Jonathan talking about their work for positive change in the sports industry 🙌
A huge pleasure to help organise Deloitte’s quarterly Sports Group Meeting last week at The Etihad ⚽️
It was topped off by interviewing the mighty Baroness Karren Brady on all things football business, being a woman in sport and even who her least favourite manager had been… 🎤
Don't get me wrong, I love pop culture news but this is giving Black Mirror vibes. Breaking news that a UK daytime TV presenter is stepping down against that backdrop, in these times???
BREAKING: Holly Willoughby says she will not return to This Morning.
In a social media post making the announcement the presenter says “I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family”.
