Well done @mulecc - your PhD work just published 😀https://t.co/8FF3Q00YGu
I think we've only scratched the surface with this... H-NS allowing bacteria to direct their own evolution. Exciting times ahead...
@timothy_fuqua This is cool - we see ~10% as well but with 43 bp random sequences. So could be as high as 1 promoter every 430 bp? It's very dependent on AT-content though
The @GraingerLab is finally back from the GRC Mechanisms of Microbial Transcription conference. Learned loads, met some great folk and saw abit of Boston.
I'll be talking about bidirectional promoters in the genetics and genomics session this afternoon @MicrobioSoc#Microbio21 We're very excited about these results so please come and let me know what you think!
Former PhD student @tom_guest's work on V. cholerae TF VpsT out. Never seen anything with DNA binding properties like this; degenerate target but binds specifically to just 1 of the 2 V. cholerae chromosomes. Any ideas how it might do this🤷♂️

1st of 4 PhD projects we're offering this year. Drop me a line if you're interested. This one is focused on unexpected ways in which bacteria control transcription of their chromosomes @FindAPhD: https://t.co/fTSIExmKIg
@rachelkettles@nxwestmidlands Toms on the 50 now and it's definitely still diverted, he said it's not going past the coach station and taking a long route around some construction work
In addition to the Twitter posts on the scientific programme, socials and online networking opportunities at #Microbio21, we enjoyed seeing the many photos of delegates' pets. Take a look at some of the highlights in our blog. https://t.co/3aWd0Q1r6V
Excited to share our research on bidirectional promoters in @NatureMicrobiol today! Here we show that transcription in bacteria isn't as 'straightforward' as we thought... 🧵

Bidirectional promoters have significant implications for how we think about transcription regulation, and much more. Check out our Behind the Paper blog post for some of the background story.
