@Ultimate_P1 Women have definitely become way too hyper-vigilant of men in recent years (I think for a whole slew of cultural reasons). But I do believe this is a vocal minority. Most women offline are normal people going about their lives in search of love in the same way men are
Returning to X and discovering that everyone online is now like my Gen X Italian restaurant coworkers who sincerely believe women are incapable of love in any capacity (with the exception of their children). Gender relations are seriously at an all-time low
@Ultimate_P1 Yeah I get where you’re coming from. For the record, I used to be much more of an “egirl” in my youth and the constant stream of attention wasn’t a proper substitute for what I’m calling love here. I could recognize that even back then.
@KimJongPune I believe it will happen for you eventually. I had a fucked dating history too, and it took meeting someone to show me actual love to be able to learn how to love properly myself. Life is hard man
@Ultimate_P1 It does eventually happen for the vast majority of people. Finding real love takes a lot of time/personal exploration. It’s more difficult for some than others. But maintaining a mentality of distrust after mistreatment makes opening your heart up to another much more difficult
@xiipid I think once you have a domestic partner, love becomes less about pure emotion and more about being able to work together to maintain a life outside of yourself. Not sure why/when the shift away from this framework happened, but it’s lead to a lot of resentment from both ends idk
@xiipid I think it’s been lost on us that men and women are supposed to have separate roles in a relationship in order to maintain their families. Financial, domestic, emotional support, etc. However the division of labor is divvied out is up to the couple
@brycemavp That said, some men are, in fact, violent and dangerous. I think a lot of women have totally abandoned using vigilance and discernment for genuinely dangerous men in favor of distrusting ALL men, which has morphed into general disrespect for the entire sex
@brycemavp “Intersectionality” on all fronts kind of ruined community. We were so close to bridging so many gaps and idpol destroyed it for the forseeable future
@KimJongPune I think you have some outlier experiences here. Maybe not and this truly is just how many women are, but I think in these cases, a lot of times, it’s literally birth control heightening women’s self preservation instincts and making them unable to trust you. I’m not joking
@KimJongPune I’ve only been in love one time but throughout that relationship I offered probably more financial and emotional support than was necessary. Was still selfish a lot of the time and I had to take time to learn and change and grow for him, but I think that’s what love is all about
I love critical theory, I love seminars, I love reading groups, I love universities as public goods, I love historiography of disciplines and knowledge itself, I love difficulty and difficult questions, and I love the humanities being human. And that's the hill I die on.
@KimJongPune I think a lot of women genuinely care about finding someone to build a family with who will be a good father. Every man I’ve been with has made less than me and sex was never that important. Speaking from personal experience but I think many women can say the same ab themselves
