Libs: If Jesus was around you would call him "woke." The Bible is akshully liberal
Texas: Ok, lets have children read it
Libs: NO that'll make them fascist
The conversation started because a Catholic was whining about Protestants having a biblical debate. Pointing out that your own "infallible" system is plagued by large, unresolved structural civil wars isn't a deflection. It directly obliterates your argument.
Sola Scriptura means the Bible is our final infallible authority, not that every single doctrine is effortlessly simple or that Christians won't disagree.
What's weak and cowardly is belonging to a system that is so terrified of honest biblical study that you have to outsource all your thinking to a human Magisterium and then pretending you have unity when half your church is calling the Pope a heretic. ๐
@MrCasey62 This coming from a subscriber of a church that has also changed, but in a far worse way, going further to state those things didn't change. Crazy.
Ok I have to say this is quite interesting how we both watch the same clips come away with completely different understandings.
But after reading your responses, you are exactly the type of person Mike is arguing against. You are responding to points Mike is not making. (plz provide the cults videos timestamp so I can review that)
1. No offense, but not addressing this.
2. Trent is the one who first misused the word "cult."
Mike only uses the word "cult" to express his opinion that the church has gone away from biblical teaching. Hes not calling it a cult like a radical unreligious cult. Hes using the lighter term to state his opinion based on church actions.
This is not anywhere close to the meaning you're imposing on him.
3. Justification...
You are taking what you have been taught about Catholicism and manipulating it to avoid merited salvation. But the RCC requirements make salvation meritorious, not to achieve it, but to KEEP it. To say otherwise is disingenuous to your own faith.
He repeatedly takes Mike out of context and reframes his arguments incorrectly.
Regardless of argumental positions, TH repeatedly misunderstands and fails at how to extract, summarize, and rebut an argument. This is not the TH I am familiar with but he has done this a lot to MW.
---
My point is this. You attacked Mike's character when Trent has behaved the exact same way.
TH is a good man. MW is a good man. They both love and seek Christ. Attacking their character is not only wrong but severely crippling to the Christian movement.
@MartinP49146517@MikeWingerii Thanks for demonstrating that not only do you not understand Protestantism, but you don't know church history or anything about the fathers beliefs.
It's only embarrassing for you when you show your ignorance.
@marcado_razon@MikeWingerii Ok I have watched this one but rewatching now.
Please hear him in the beginning when he talks to Catholics.

@marcado_razon@MikeWingerii Don't take offense, but it seems you might more be upset about his content rather than him. Could be wrong.
But I don't see at all what you see.
I would like to specifically address those numbered claims.
I couldn't disagree more strongly. If you haven't watched an extended length video, you probably won't see the care and concern he takes in trying to understand facts first.
I really feel you are lacking a full perspective here.
@marcado_razon@MikeWingerii As you know, I respect Trent.
But I have seen Trent misinterpret Mike often.
I'll watch your suggestion but I think you are misunderstanding Mike's intentions.
@MartinP49146517@MikeWingerii Why does the Catholic Church push traditions that didn't exist while the apostles were alive?
Then turn and tell us we aren't true Christians because we don't believe these accretions you added afterwards?
The RCC has literally done the same thing.
@MartinP49146517@MikeWingerii Thanks for demonstrating that not only do you not understand Protestantism, but you don't know church history or anything about the fathers beliefs.
It's only embarrassing for you when you show your ignorance.
@marcado_razon@MikeWingerii What are your concerns with Mike?
I have watched many of his 3+ hr videos.
I only see a heart for Jesus.
Not only that, but he is extraordinarily careful not to take someone or something out of context.
Would love a genuine critique if you see issues.
Some Catholics say they laugh at the idea of "anyone leaving Roman Catholicism to becoime a Reformed Baptist." I laugh back. Why?
I left the Roman Catholic Church in 1973 after eight years of catechism, four years of theology at a Jesuit prep school, four years as an altar boy, and two years of pre-seminary formation. And yes, I'm now a Reformed Baptist pastor.
So, while they are laughing, the Roman Catholic church has been hemorrhaging cradle Catholics since the 1960s. The truth is that I'm not the only one. There are countless numbers of us who have left Romeโnot because we were ignorant of Catholicism, but because we studied it seriously and became convinced that Scripture, not the Roman magisterium, is the final authority for the Church. In fact, one of my seminary professors who is the chair of the theology department has a similar story: and is now a reformed Presbyterian.
The difference between Protestants like us and Catholics like Scott Hahn, Dwight Longenecker, Joe Heschmeyer, and others is that most of us donโt make our journey the center of our public witness. Why not? Because we donโt believe it adds to the glory of Christ to denigrate another Christian traditionโeven one we believe is in grievous error.
But perhaps we should reconsider that conclusion. Perhaps I should write that book to detail: why I left Rome, and why, after a lifetime of study, I remain a Protestant by conviction.
What do you think?
@NJBeisner Yes.
I also think its important for us to understand why it's so hard for them to except Jesus. I don't think it would have been easy with many false prophets before.
Then also encourage and support Messiancs for their courage and faith.
