Today, I attended a press conference at the apartment complexes where national and local media have falsely reported that gangs have taken over.
Instead, we heard from residents who debunked this narrative and called out the slumlord responsible for forcing them to live in inhumane conditions.
This is a thread of what I saw and heard.

Have a lot of people texting me over Imane Khelif. Personally I don’t think she has done anything to ‘cheat’. I thinks it’s the way she was born & that’s out of her control. The fact that she has been beating by 9 females before says it all.
This is the BBC coverage of the massacre in Rafah:
•an ‘explosion’ killed people;
•repeats IDF propaganda that Hamas are hiding in the tents;
•no mention of Israel ignoring the rulings of the ICC.
The media are complicit in genocide. Expose them.
New Interview: I talked to Seema Jilani, a pediatrician who spent two weeks working at a hospital in Gaza, about her experiences, and what Israel’s refusal to allow sufficient medicine into the territory has meant for Gaza’s children. https://t.co/TnSwwK51qL
I've had a lot of people from outside Ireland asking me about what's been going on in Dublin, and also about the growth of the far-right in Ireland.
Here are some recent pieces I've written addressing this context.
Cork City Libraries are delighted to have been awarded the LGBTQ+ Ally award at the #GALAS2023.
We strive to place libraries at the heart of communities, welcoming and supporting everyone in their enjoyment of reading, and in their pursuit of learning, knowledge and culture.
Since a lot of you are asking me why I feel this Teesta Sikkim disaster is bigger than Uttarakhand 2013 and Himachal Pradesh 2023... see below:
1. Teesta III dam which has been breached is huge. It's a 60m rock filled concrete dam! It was generating 1,200 MW of power. It cost ₹14,000 cr+ to build. Gone in one shot. No infrastructure of this scale was damaged or destroyed in Uttarakhand or Himachal. Small dams and under construction projects were affected, but nothing this YUGE.
2. The number of major bridges across the Teesta that have been washed away is crazy! In Uttarakhand, I think one bridge was lost across the Mandakini. In Himachal, almost every bridge over the Beas survived. Thus, flood level on the Teesta was truly ferocious.
3. GLOF was predicted for Teesta valley and the severity looks in line with those predictions. Uttarakhand wasn't a GLOF in the classical sense and neither was Himachal.
Caveats:
Uttarakhand 2013 remains an unparalleled human tragedy and the large scale devastation of road infrastructure in Himachal in 2023 is unseen before.
It's been happening to library workers for months now and never got the same amount of focus. Just accepted. Or the Garda allowing them to count asylum seekers on buses. Just accepted.
🚨The Sovereign Violence🚨
Two weeks ago, a bunch of transphobes got in a boat to harass library workers up the Shannon under the guise of "protecting childhood." It didn't take long for these violent thugs to show their true colours.
