You people want to come here and start gaslighting everybody. Please carry that gaslighting and go and sleep. 😂 Who exactly do you think you’re gaslighting? Are we stupid?
A lot of us retailers have been managing ourselves. We were buying from wholesalers in Mandilas, adding our own profit and selling to our customers.
Then some of you wholesalers started coming out of Mandilas, paying influencers, opening Instagram and TikTok pages and selling directly to end users.
So what did you think was going to happen?
A lot of the people who were buying from you started looking for the source themselves. I personally know people who took loans and started going to China because of how the market was being handled.
You pushed your own customers to go and find another source.
Now that Chinese suppliers are becoming more visible, suddenly everybody is crying?
Please.
Chinese people have been in Nigeria for years. I grew up seeing them bring gadgets into the streets like blenders, electric kettles, hotpots, all sorts of household appliances and sell directly to people. Some even allowed customers to pay gradually over a few months.
So why are you acting like Chinese people just landed in Nigeria yesterday?
The internet has simply made information more accessible now.
People are learning how to source. People are discovering manufacturers. People are comparing prices. People are travelling to China themselves. People are no longer completely dependent on one middleman to tell them how much something costs.
And honestly, some of you helped create this situation.
You bypassed retailers for years. You went directly to consumers. You used influencers to advertise directly to end users. Some retailers couldn’t survive it. Some changed their businesses. Some started importing themselves.
Nobody was screaming then.
But now that somebody else is competing with you, suddenly you want everybody to sympathize with you?
Please.
You cannot complain about a system you helped create simply because the same system has finally started affecting you.
The market is changing. People are learning.
Adapt.
Selective outrage
You hated the fact that you were asked to leave Lagos. You called it tribalism. You hated the fact that South Africans chased Nigerians out of South Africa. You called it Xenophobia.
What do you call chasing foreigners out of a place cos they sell cheaper than you ?
If you make excuses for the latter then you are a bloody hypocrite
Tried several times to talk his wife out of cheating notoriously with a young man who is an aloyinloko+lohun.
I don’t want to ever hear that men don’t forgive cheating again.
The best of men are still men.
GRV justified Monday sit at home.
Same GRV has problems with 2 hours environmental sanitation.
Una problem for that Lagos be say una like explanation too much.
@GRVlagos let me respectfully disagree.
Shutting down a city of over 20 million people is not what we are doing. We are asking residents to dedicate one hundred and twenty minutes, once every thirty days, to clean their immediate surroundings. That is not a shutdown. That is called taking responsibility.
I agree completely that waste management logistics, from collection to disposal to recycling, are critical. That is why we have spent the past year strengthening those very systems. We have banned single use plastics, we are converting Olusosun landfill to energy, we are deploying biogas facilities in our markets, we are partnering with Lafarge to turn waste into valuable resources, and we are empowering young innovators with technology to improve sanitation access. These are not cosmetic actions. They are structural changes to how Lagos manages waste.
But here is what I also know. No system of waste management, no matter how sophisticated, will succeed if citizens refuse to take basic responsibility for their environment. You cannot complain about flooding while dumping refuse in drains. You cannot demand a cleaner city while sweeping waste into the road. You cannot blame government for a dirty environment when you are unwilling to clean the front of your own house.
The monthly sanitation exercise is not a substitute for systemic reform. It is a complement to it. It is about rebuilding a culture of environmental stewardship that has been lost over time. Technology and infrastructure alone cannot save a city whose people have abandoned personal responsibility.
We welcome objective criticism that offers solutions. But dismissing a civic exercise as unimaginative, while offering no alternative path to citizen participation, does not move us forward.

Interesting quote from the PUNCH story:
“The GenCos had demanded N6tn and proposed N3tn in the federal bailout. But multiple Presidency and power ministry sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the lack of authorisation to speak on the matter, told The PUNCH that the President had demanded a thorough audit of the operators’ claims before committing public funds, likening the initial submissions to the inflated documentation that characterised the fuel subsidy regime.
“The GenCos came here last August to meet the President, pleading that legacy debt doesn’t make them shut down. They said that legacy debt since 2010 is up to N6tn. Now, the President told them, ‘That is your claim. You said the government owes you this much, but I’m not going to pay N6tn just because you said the government owes you.
“We are going to audit. How did you arrive at that amount in your invoices?’ It’s just like the fuel subsidy.
“Everybody was just bringing fake documents just to make money off of the government,” one of the sources said.
Hmmmmm ……
If you know you like catching “cruise” online, even if you won’t read anything again for the rest of your life, read the new Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015,
with critical 2024 amendments that updated Section 24.
It will save you and your family.
The hot takes about Speed being in Lagos and holding a mirror to our faces are some of the most hypocritical I have seen in a long time.
There is nothing on that stream that is new to us.
The begging.
The dysfunction.
What is most uncomfortable is that the chaos was not driven by area boys but by regular people. Friends, neighbors, family members. That is the mirror many are refusing to look into.
Egungun has put out silly content for years, and we have laughed along. Yet the moment he cannot hold a decent conversation, we suddenly remember how vacuous the content is. Not because it changed, but because an American streamer is now at the center of it.
There is a lawyer on Instagram, I believe his name is Tobe, who travels across Nigeria showcasing our culture. His content reveals landscapes, people, and communities I had never encountered. He has shown me a Nigeria that is rich, layered, and deeply human.
Speed, on the other hand, leans into spectacle and squalor because that is what feeds the algorithm. I do not blame him. That is the economy of attention we live in.
But if you are coming to Nigeria to be immersed in culture, Lagos is not where you start. Speed knows this. Disorder draws traffic, and traffic is the point.
I love Lagos. It has given me much as a young man.
I also know its problems. Lagos is one of the few places that functions, and everyone comes here chasing opportunity despite it being the smallest state. The strain is visible.
Amanpour, Richard Quest, and others have come here and told our stories with nuance and dignity. They showed complexity, not caricature.
We are still a work in progress. Perhaps the harder question is why we are so quick to externalise blame while refusing to examine ourselves. Why we are brash, entitled, loud, and careless as a collective.
We blame government easily, yet struggle to practice decency at the most basic level.
Our problems are many. But I will not hate myself or my country because a streamer is chasing engagement and trying to shape a narrative.
It’s so funny that this current generation is going in the direction of our forefathers, but they think they’re cute giving it a new name.
No be polygamy be this? 😆😆😆

The government plays a role, maybe 20%. But a big part of Nigeria’s problems comes from the citizens themselves, unruly behavior, entitlement, poor self-discipline, excessive noise, and the constant urge to outsmart one another. Pure chaos.👎
