Final: Old Rochester 44 Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical 49
January 9, 2025. Greater New Bedford Vocational (5-3) defeated Old Rochester (6-2) in a league game by the score of 49-44. Greater New Bedford had 3 players scoring in double figures with Sofia Ramos Rodriguez 14 points, Lila Emken 12 points and Kaira Dubois 11 points.
Old Rochester was led by Emma Johnson who played a strong overall game to finish with a double-double 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Bosma also played well and almost had a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
First Quarter: Greater New Bedford Vocational took an early lead 10-4 with 4 points scored by Sofia Ramos Rodriguez. Old Rochester then took charge to comeback scoring the last 9 points in the quarter to end the first period with the Bulldogs leading 13-10. Old Rochester’s Emma Johnson had 5 points, Carly Mello 2 points and Maddie Hardy 2 points during the 9-0 run.
Second Quarter: Old Rochester continued were it left off in the first period by starting the second quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 19-10 lead with scoring from Saddie Hartley-Matteson 2 points, Emma Johnson 2 points and Sydney Bosma 2 points. Greater New Bedford Vocational cut the lead in half to end the quarter with Old Rochester leading 28-24 as Greater New Bedford’s Olivia Reis connected on two 3-pointers and Sofia Ramos Rodriguez connected for one as well for the Bears.
Third Quarter: Greater New Bedford Vocational tied the game 28-28 by scoring the first 4 points of the quarter from Sofia Ramos Rodriguez. Greater New Bedford later extended their lead to 36-33 to end the quarter on top with hustle and scrappy playing to outscore Old Rochester in the quarter 12-5. GNBVT were highlighted by 3-pointers from Jaiana Silva and Sofia Ramos Rodriguez. Old Rochester had scoring from Sydney Bosma 4 points and Carly Mello 1 point in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: With Greater New Bedford Vocational up by 6 points, 41-35, Old Rochester scored the next 4 points on baskets from Emma Johnson and Sydney Bosma to cut the lead to 41-39 and later 43-41 on a basket by Maddie Hardy. However, Greater New Bedford’s Lila Emken scored 4 of her team’s last 6 points to pick up the win 49-44. Old Rochester had scoring from Hannah Thorell 4 points, Emma Johnson 3 points, Maddie Hardy 2 points and Sydney Bosma 2 points.
