Last week we came across a non native, drifting bull kelp (Durvillea) in Ryder Bay @BAS_News Rafts can transport other non native species to the continent. We found open water goose barnacles (Lepas australis). These are not a threat but harmful invaders can also hitch a ride
So happy to hear the final Himanthalia elongata survey, which I worked on for 18 months, has been completed! So many individuals have been recorded over a 2 year period. Can’t wait to hear the results!

Fantastic couple of days diving around kelp farm in Cornwall to collect data on carbon dynamics. Beautiful spot despite Cornish weather! Great collaboration between mba, Newcastle, tritonia, Cornish seaweed co and wwf-uk 😎😎😎
🤿 Day 1 diving/snorkling for @MaxineCanvin PhD to find suitable sites for sediment cores to quantify the potential for carbon sequestration at seaweed farms @CornishSeaweed
Today we set up baited underwater camera traps and took samples for gut content and stable isotope analysis to assess if fishes utilise aquaculture sites as a habitat and feeding ground for @SeaweedSoph’s PhD! 🎣🐟🐠⛴
📢📢NEW PAPER 📢📢and our first dive into microbiology of kelps. Want to know how bacteria communities shift between hosts at various spatial scales?? Well read all about it (DM for pdf)🙀🙀🙀 https://t.co/VruwWFs4wz
Great first day on the Collecting and Identifying Seaweed Course 2022 by @marineseen. Today we focused on identifying seaweeds from a sheltered tidal river 🌊🌱
Thrilled to get the diving season running today. Few drills n skills and then back to the monitoring sites to change loggers and collect some kelp density data. Thanks to @mba_rv and @TritoniaDiving for the superb support as always 😎 🌊 🤿 🌱 ☀️ 🐟 🛥
