In a small Roman town many centuries ago, there lived a man named Marcus.

Marcus was known by everyone as “the Christian.”

It was not a title people used lightly. When the neighbors called someone a Christian, it meant something serious. It meant that person followed Jesus completely.

Marcus refused to lie in business. He helped the poor even when he had little. When soldiers came and demanded he worship the emperor, he quietly refused.

People watched his life carefully.

One day a neighbor asked him,
“Why do you live this way when it makes your life harder?”

Marcus replied simply,
“Because I belong to Christ.”

That answer eventually cost him everything. Marcus was arrested and later executed for refusing to deny his faith.

But even after his death, the town remembered him. When people heard the word Christian, they thought of courage, sacrifice, holiness, and loyalty to Jesus.

Many years later, in another city, a man named David also called himself a Christian.

He attended church regularly. He posted Bible verses online and had a Christian name.

But at work he cheated customers. In private conversations he gossiped about people. His lifestyle looked no different from those who did not believe in Christ.

When his colleagues heard he was a Christian, they were surprised.

One of them even said quietly,
“If that is what being a Christian means, then it doesn’t mean much.”

That night David thought deeply about those words.

He realized something painful:

In the days of the early believers, being called a Christian meant your life clearly looked like Jesus.

But today the name is often worn without the life behind it.

And he began to understand something important:

Crowded churches and popular messages cannot replace true discipleship.
Because Christianity was never meant to be just a label it was meant to be a life that reflects Christ.
