Professor Felix Oragwu at 92
The man who powered Biafran aircrafts with palmoil and produced the Ogbunigwe
Prof Felix N. C. Oragwu is a nuclear physicist, educated at Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha, Nigeria, the Universities of Glasgow in Scotland, School of Graduate Studies, Physics Department (Research), University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Physics Department (Research), University of Manchester, in England respectively.
He began his teaching career as University Lecturer in Physics, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in 1960s before the Nigerian Civil War of 1967-1970. During the Civil War he served as the Head Research Planning / Coordinator Technological Services of the Science and Technology (S&T/RAP) Group that operated the technological aspects of the Industrial War Machine in Biafra from 1967/1970.
At the height of the conflict, while resources were scarce, he and his team did the unthinkable, they successfully processed palm oil to power a jet airplane thereby turning a local resource into aviation fuel. The team also developed the famous Ogbunigwe aka Ojukwu Bomb. His team was also behind the brain that processed crude oil into refine petroleum, using natural resources that were obtained in the eastern region.
After the war, the federal government led by Gen. Yakubu Gowon assembled Biafran scientists and technical talent to help build an industrialization project for Nigeria. Dr. Oragwu presented a proposal and layout for an institute, but unfortunately, Murtala Muhammed was uncomfortable with the idea. He vehemently opposed the initiative, viewing it as a move to empower former rebels, and consequently rejected the idea.
Some reports stated that after the rejection, Murtala Muhammed together with Ibrahim Taiwo etc assembled the materials which included the blueprint that produced ogbunigwe and aviation fuel from palm oil and, poured fuel on them and set same ablaze.
Ironically, Indonesia celebrated its first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel on October 27, 2023, something Oragwu and his team had already done more than five decades ago.
On 22 March 2026, this great man turned 92 years.
Long may you live Professor Felix Oragwu.

History whispers in places people are afraid to speak loudly.
Sit with elders in Bonny and Opobo, and you will hear it, quietly, carefully, there is a shared ancestry. Igbo and Ijaw, intertwined beyond denial.
Yet in public, one side fades.
Why?
Why is the Igbo identity acknowledged in private conversations, but avoided in open spaces? Who decided which part of the story should live and which part should disappear?
Because the waters of Bonny and Opobo have seen things.
During the war of 1967, bodies passed through those waters, unlabeled, unclaimed, undefined. The ocean did not separate them by identity.
So ask yourself:
Who were they?
If history records tragedies in places like Asaba, what makes other regions exempt from buried truths?
Or is it that some histories are easier to forget than others?
Now here is where it becomes uncomfortable,
Imagine rejecting a people for years. Mocking them. Distancing yourself from them.
Then one day, truth becomes undeniable.
A DNA test.
And suddenly, the identity you fought so hard to deny… is staring back at you.
Not theory. Not politics. Not opinion.
You.
Because the deepest conflict is not between tribes,
it is between truth and the version of identity people choose to live with.
And when that truth finally surfaces…
Will people accept it,
or continue to drown it?

They say, we're complaining too much and that we should stop complaining and choose another style and I ask them, should we pick up arms?
If our peaceful complaints has become too noisy to your ears, and you label us noise makers without results, is it when we turn violent that you won't call us terrorists seeking a terrorist nation state?
Won't they brand Biafra a terror State that shouldn't be allowed to exist?
You see the hypocrisy?
We have peacefully protested in UK, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Nigeria, USA, and in other countries necessary. We have shown our determination, made moves, met global institutions, reached governments, and remained strategic without losing hope.
What did we get?
Silence. Indifference. Indignation
We chose peace for over 12 years but now they say your peace is too nice to bring you attention. They mock us for being resilient with our framework. Posing as though they're giving us a friendly reminder or advice.
No buddy, that is not a friendly talk. That is resentment wrapped in mockery.
They come as friends, unannounced, same pattern of the invaders. Yet, unsolicited, uninvited, they seek to dictate for us how and where to do what we must do.
That is not partnership. That is Infiltration.
And so, we must be vigilant. Mentally, vibrated and charged to uncode signs, decode symbols and then show them wonders like our fathers did during the 30 months genocide against Ụmụ Chineke.
I see bloodbath coming. A war of self-preservation.
Listen, the Nwa bekee knows that their intervention in the Kwararafa Plateau region is temporal. It will expose their hypocrisy in few years time. Instead of giving them real and total liberation, they gave them sympathy and false hope of ending oppression through the Constitution.
Nah, It is a makeshift advocacy and so they are aware they're gonna be exposed in less than 5 years today when the curtains in the White House changes.
What do they do now, how can they make up for this shame before time elapses?
Seek how to attach them with these other people and then leave them together in that struggle even if the colours in White House changes in few years time.
But why us, why Biafrans? Why not Tivs, Birons, Bachamas, Nupes, and the hundreds of them there? Why not go and unite them to seek their own liberation, Their own way, and framework?
Why must they have to do with our march? When they still teach their own people to hate us till tomorrow.
They chose us because they know Biafrans are purposefully engaged in self-determination. Come what may, we must continue regardless.
They understand our strength to hang on even in death, a virtue others trapped in this mess doesn't have nor experienced.
Our history is rich in all ramifications. We have tested all the ingredients of history. From Peace to pain, from pain to Rising glory and from oppression to liberation, our story embodies a journey of a civilization, a people destined to rule, not in bitterness but with justice and progress.
And then, whenever we tell our story, whenever we demand what is right and rightly ours, what follows it?
Silence. Indifference. Now, Condemnation
Yet, They say, we're complaining too much and that we should stop complaining and choose another style. Oh dear me! Another style, what style is left there?
What exactly do they want us do?
To give up. Stop demanding and keep suffering. Or go and open our guards so we may have IDPs in our land like they already did up there. Like they did us 56 years ago. Because they love giving aids, missionary activities and philanthropy than solving the real problems.
Give them total liberation. Empower them to stand on their own and demand what is theirs and not come to us with your wobbly sweet wooing like we're a hapless girl looking for a suitor.
Let us see them for who they're because history has taught us enough lessons if we must continue regardless.

The real shock isn’t in history, it’s in discovery.
Imagine spending years rejecting, mocking, even resenting a people… only to take a DNA test and find out that their story is your story too.
That the identity you distanced yourself from is written into your blood.
What happens then?
Because that kind of truth doesn’t just challenge what you believe,
it forces you to confront who you are.
And sometimes, the hardest reality to accept is this:
the thing you fought so hard to deny… was never separate from you in the first place.

History has a way of whispering what people are afraid to say out loud.
During the war of 1967, bodies washed through the waters of Bonny and Opobo, silent, unnamed, unclaimed. The ocean did not ask where they came from. It carried them all the same.
So the question lingers:
Who were they?
If entire communities remember fragments of that time, why are some identities spoken of boldly, while others fade into silence?
If tragedies could unfold in places like Asaba, what makes any other place immune from similar buried truths?
Because sometimes, what survives history is not just memory…
but the version of it people choose to live with.
And the most unsettling part is this:
When a people begin to distance themselves from certain truths, is it out of denial, or survival?

The Coming of Biafra Is in Your Hands — Speak, Write, and Never Stop
In the face of adversity, one truth stands unshaken: “Believe in yourself”. The journey toward freedom is never easy, but it is always worth it. Always remember that many have died because of our struggle for freedom. Heroes and heroines, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and unborn children, laid down their lives. Their blood was not spilled in vain. It waters the tree of liberty that we must now nurture with courage and unwavering commitment.
Be strong. Keep speaking Biafra. Keep advocating for Biafra. Do not let fear silence you, for silence in the face of injustice is complicity. The coming of Biafra is in your hands. Every word you utter, every post you share, every conversation you start brings us one step closer to the dawn of a new nation, a land where dignity, self-determination, and prosperity reign.
Write about Biafra every day. Don't stop talking about Biafra. Share the stories of our people, the resilience that turned starvation into survival, the ingenuity that built a nation under siege, and the unyielding spirit that refuses to be broken even after decades of marginalization. Tell the world about the young lives lost, the dreams deferred, and the potential that blooms when a people are finally free to govern themselves.
There is power in your voice. There is power in your social media advocacy. In this digital age, your wall is not just a personal space, it is a global stage. The world is reading you. They are checking your posts, your stories, your videos, and your updates. International observers, diplomats, journalists, and fellow freedom seekers across continents are watching. What you say today can spark conversations tomorrow. It can shift narratives, expose truths, and build solidarity.
Your consistent advocacy on, Facebook, Instagram, and beyond is a weapon more potent than many realize. Social media has already amplified the Biafran cause, mobilizing support, raising awareness, and keeping the flame of self-determination alive even when traditional channels were shut. Every hashtag, every thread, every live broadcast carries the potential to reach millions. Use it wisely, use it boldly, and use it relentlessly.
The coming of Biafra is in your hand, believe that you can make impact. It will not arrive through silence or waiting alone, but through the collective power of ordinary people who refuse to give up. It is built in the quiet moments when you choose to post despite threats, when you educate a friend or family member, when you stand firm in the belief that freedom is our birthright.
To every Biafran at home and in the diaspora: You are not powerless. You are the architects of tomorrow. Draw strength from the sacrifices of the past, stand tall in the present, and speak with conviction for the future. Let your voice echo the words of those who came before us, leaders and everyday citizens who declared that oppression must end and that a people determined to be free cannot be held down forever.
Keep talking about Biafra.
Keep writing about Biafra.
Keep advocating for Biafra.
The restoration is nearer than it appears, and it begins with you. Believe in yourself. The power is in your hands.
