As CBAM continues to play a role in global climate discussions and South Africa is reportedly considering recourse to the WTO, my chapter on the way in which the EU seeks to balance its 'good' actorness in climate and trade simultaneously remains relevant!
Eva Pander Maat @empandermaat will offer her views on how to understand the EU as a global standard-setter on #climate coherence.

🎓A number of brilliant scholars will participate including our @faheye, @jedodermatt, @empandermaat and @rebelo_pia!

Sentimental legal scholar tweet: so exciting that what once seemed distant legal fiction is now truly materializing!
(barring details, well set out by Cosbey below)
What does #CBAM say about the EU's climate leadership? Worth rt'ing my @European_Papers:

#CBAM published today in the Official Journal of the EU - that means it enters into law tomorrow.
That's an accelerated timeline, because they need to accelerate the process of releasing the draft implementing legislation. LOTS of important details yet to come, including ... 🧵
I thoroughly enjoyed presenting and chairing at the 🇪🇺energy/environmental panel at the @eustudies conferencein 🇺🇸Pittsburgh this week!
Many thanks to my discussants Mats Braun and

Confusion on EU energy competences in @volkskrant report on the common gas purchases platform calls for a throwback to this fantastic research exchange!
Many thanks for @Groningen_EULaw for hosting and their engagement with my work on EU competences for climate coherence. 🇪🇺🍀
👏During City-Groningen Research Exchange on @GlobalGoalsUN @Sustain_City our PhD student @empandermaat presented her research on #EU climate law competences & coherence.⬇️
We can't wait to welcome @Groningen_EULaw researchers at @CityLawSchool in June!

On a selfish note - great to see the relevance of your research reflected in current affairs. The misunderstanding underlines the relevance of researching climate coherence in EU law and the role of competences in its pursuit. Looking forward to further engagement!

This week in Dutch paper @volkskrant: EU energy policy incorrectly presented as a national competence. Pursuant to Art. 4(2)(i) TFEU, the competence for energy is shared between Member States and the EU.
The confusion, however, is logical -

This makes the common gas purchases platform, agreed this Tues, all the more newsworthy! It indicates that national energy security and market liberalization are no sacred vows. This flexibility will come in handy when pursuing further climate coherence in EU energy policy.

And with that, the final hurdle for passage of the world’s first #CarbonBorderTax has passed.
The 🇪🇺Council, the EU legislature’s upper chamber, has rubber-stamped the deal reached with lower chamber 🇪🇺Parliament. Poland voted against, Bulgaria & Belgium abstained.

An honour to have my paper and presentation be discussed by the person who quite literally wrote the book, Professor Paul Craig, at the UKAEL Young Researchers Workshop yesterday.
Many thanks to @ukaelblog@mark_kon for organizing this academic "pinch me" moment!
It was a pleasure attending the Young Researchers Workshop, which we organised with the UK Association of European Law (@ukaelblog). PhD candidates from Edinburgh, City, Belfast & Oxford presented and discussed their research with leading #EUlaw academics and practitioners.
Nothing brightens weekend writing like a delayed book delivery! Honoured to be included with a chapter on #CBAM in this amazing work by @faheye @Isa__Mancini
