Inside COMPILE 26. The talk that stuck wasn't "more agents."

The largest problem that keeps coming up is AI slop. Bots greasing a garbage outcome instead of a unit of work you can actually measure.

Coding got easy. Building software is still hard because teams need coordination. Tomas Reimers: bots already comment on ~25% of PRs. Validation is getting automated. Alignment at that volume is not. Review the thing that shipped, not just the diff.

Jet Semrick: if it doesn't replace current work — meetings booked, PRs merged — it's chat.

Pauline Brunet: golden path + adversarial evals. Don't drown in 10k tests before you ship. Don't skip the tests either.

Humans keep taste and trade-offs. Agents get the repetitive work, and memory from the feedback.

Less slop. More units of work.
