@stkirsch I note that use of combustion engines have increased in a similar manner.
Does that mean cars are linked to autism?
Or are cars linked to vaccines?
I’m confused… #CorrelationDoesNotEqualCausation
@RCollEM@RCEMpresident “Performance” is not a dirty word - but when performance measured is impacted by factors outside your control (ie beds!) , well then that’s just stupid innit :)
@AirwayLegend A lot of anaesthetists would argue that EM folks dont do enough to keep their skills up. Which is probably true, because we so rarely GET to do it, it doesn't become a priority for limited training time, so the cycle continues. We lose confidence, we deskill, we avoid doing it
@MattSnowsill 100% I came to EM to deal with complex emergency care. I think if we fixed this we'd fix a lot of the EM retention issues (not all... But a lot)
@Dr_JRogers My brief time with the NHS - stunned that I was expected to call anaesthetics/ITU to perform any intubations or central lines!
Australia heading that way as bed block and ramping limiting time to perform critical care procedures. Our speciality is being finished @acemonline
I guarantee you couldn’t. You really don’t have a couple of hours before you have to use the pavement outside. And it begs the question that if you can do this during a major incident, list the rules you say are different, and explain why you can’t do it now, today.
Love Helen Clark’s advice to
young people: “A lifetime in politics has taught me that to get leaders to act, people need to make noise. Don’t be quiet, don’t just squeak, roar!”
Surviving as a team leader in emergency medicine. Here are 10 learning objectives & strategies I recommend:
1. Develop a resuscitation mindset, taking responsibility for the critically ill patients under your care
- ownership is key
@DrDavidRouse @cliffreid If only the majority of EDs had the resources ….. our profession is slowly deskilling as we move away from these critically necessary but time consuming procedures, in order to focus on the overcrowded ED. EM in Australia is under threat
Dear General/Acute medicine,
Thank you for being the best specialty to refer to and just doing what needs doing for patients without being difficult,
You really are wonderful,
Love from Emergency Medicine.
