@aleksnotalex LOL. I once opened my door to a (new-ish!) downstairs neighbor frantically knocking because she was afraid the building was going to explode.
@greg_jenner @BBCSounds I'm a person who eschewed NPR etc. in Ye Olden Days because "I don't like people *talking*; just give me the transcript!" But *this* was my "gateway" podcast, and *these* days I go for lots of long walks with earbuds, so: yay!!
@lionel_trolling It's wicked idiotic that you were obliged to engage with a bad faith attack on something explicitly prefaced as being a work-in-progress/reading notes/riff thing; but...it yielded "dickish fulmination" which, with mixed feelings, I would not mind having an opportunity to deploy?
@pptsapper I once attended a swank cocktail party at the Airborne Museum ("immersion guaranteed!") in conjunction with a Tour de France teams presentation in Sainte-Mere-Eglise and *thought* I knew "cognitive dissonance", but...
@williamfleitch Several years ago, I volunteered to tutor 7th-graders in math on Saturdays for a semester; every Friday night I frantically taught myself The Way They Math Now?? with the invaluable aid of the Internet.
@winterjessica Fortunately parents (mine, anyway) weren't worried about pre-schoolers and "screens" in the 70s, because I learned to read from The Electric Company.
@DennisPerkins5 OMG. This was a couple of years before I was enlightened towards Billy Bragg -- in freshman year of college, natch -- so *thank you* for sharing Billy Bragg meets Letterman?!
@pptsapper Based on the work you've shared previously from your niece, this is marvelous but not at all surprising (*my* niblings don't know it yet, but *yours* have, like, totally raised the bar)
@LethalityJane This is why I -- a household of one (1)! -- always use wireless headphones while watching TV; the summer sweat struggle is real, but the quick thumb-justable volume control is priceless.
@hamiltonnolan LOL. Just had this year's edition of the annual Talk with Mom in which I admit that I (still!) have no AC. (I may be a masshole, but I'm a *principled* masshole, dammit!) (With a couple bedsheets on the sofa...)
@NaFun@pareene OMG I haven't thought about it in years/decades/whatever, but oh how that Ayn Rand contest *was* *so* promoted! (I actually *did* win...a Joyce Carol Oates contest, but feel retroactively conflicted about that, too...)
@pptsapper If "The Great War and Modern Memory" hadn't already converted me from presumptive English major to committed History major, "Ordinary Men" would have done it.
@pptsapper Huzzah! The quartermaster has lately returned from replenishing the gin stores (which were -- unaccountably! -- exhausted yester eve'...); time to settle in for a long weekend of history and, uh... cycling #venndiagram
