Update for the 2022-2023 licensing examinations cycle: licensing examinations for the 2022-2023 licensing cycle will take place in-person; online examinations will not be offered. Study materials and the competencies that will be examined remain unchanged.
So I guess students don’t deserve the much needed mental health break after writing the bar exam before articling? And I guess those who were relying on being able to write remotely have no choice now? And any long awaited travel plans in July have to be cancelled?
My articling and bar fees in 2016/2017 totalled $4,500.
I was called in 2018. My annual fees this year were $2,048.69.
Why do do students pay more fees to the @LawSocietyLSO than practising lawyers, earning an income?
I complained plenty about how the LSO handled the exams in 2020… and it seems like things have only gotten worse.
I guarantee that there are now students who will need to choose between cancelling significant travel plans, or deferring their exam into their articles
In the hours since this was announced my friends have already lost hundreds of $ in cancelations, are trying to defer articles so they don’t start in the middle of LSO exams and are trying to deal with how they will start articles with no time off to rest. How is this necessary?
If I was a 3L student set to write the bar, I'd be mad as hell. Between this and the minimum wage "debate" our regulator has shown how little regard it has for the future members of our profession.
Ontario law school deans: it’s time for you to stand up for our graduating students and demand an explanation from @LawSocietyLSO on why it’s changing the mode and timing of the upcoming bar exams at the 11th hour.
Exam change from June to July w/ no explanation. Students had plans. To visit loved ones. To travel the world. To start articling. To work other jobs to address student debts. To take a well deserved break and prioritize their mental health. @LawSocietyLSO plz reconsider this one
@hhuilitwin@corollaryrelief I find it can be a struggle for people to understand the difference between their tax return and a notice of assessment, so addressing that in your video could be a large help to people.
Can someone at @LawSocietyLSO explain why exams that were supposed to take place remotely are now in person in one location only (Toronto) with no choice of dates? Having screwed this up once, shouldn’t @LawSocietyLSO make every effort to accommodate candidates? @LSOTreasurer?
@corollaryrelief I have a doozy of a question. Are you aware of any cases where parents are not separated, but only one parent has decision-making? Worried that a separation agreement on decision-making triggers the corollary issues.
