Africa in a Fractured World, an op-ed authored by Foreign Minister @GHessebon, examines how geopolitical rivalry is reshaping trade, investment, and security, and how Africa should navigate a rapidly changing global order by turning emerging competition into an advantage.
He argues that geopolitics is increasingly shaping global engagement, gradually redefining how states interact economically and politically. In this context, African countries, he notes, can leverage their resources to craft stronger and more strategic partnerships if used effectively.
The article also highlights Ethiopia’s experience, stating: “Ethiopia has adapted its model to emerging and evolving realities, diversified the pivots of economic growth, implemented bold economic reforms, and mobilized domestic resources.”

Ethiopia’s WTO Accession Reaches a Key Milestone
(Geneva: April 21, 2026)
An Ethiopian delegation led by H.E. Dr. Kassahun Gofe, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, held productive talks in Geneva with Ambassador Rebecca Fisher Lamb, Chair of the WTO Working Party on Ethiopia’s accession.
The Minister thanked the Chair for her strong leadership and support, noting that recent international recognition—particularly at the Yaoundé Ministerial Conference—has boosted momentum. Ethiopia also confirmed it has provided substantive responses in multilateral negotiations and successfully concluded several bilateral market access agreements.
Ambassador Fisher Lamb commended Ethiopia’s recent progress and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the process.
The 7th Working Party Meeting (April 22–23, 2026) is expected to be decisive, with preparations completed. Both sides agreed to further strengthen coordination among Ethiopia, the Chair, and the WTO Secretariat.
Etiopía ha emprendido los preparativos iniciales mediante el establecimiento formal del Comité Directivo Nacional. Hemos reunido a los líderes clave para guiar este proceso con claridad y determinación.#COP32
As the COP32 host country, Ethiopia has embarked on early preparations through the formal establishment of the National Steering Committee. We have brought together key leadership to guide this process with clarity and purpose. The Presidency has already commenced its initial tasks, laying the foundation for what must be a coordinated and ambitious effort.
Today, I convened the National Steering Committee across sectors to assess progress made so far, identify gaps, and ensure that all efforts remain aligned with our national vision. This platform serves not only as a space for review, but also for collective direction-setting. Our focus is clear: to move forward cohesively, with strong coordination, unified ambition, and a shared commitment to excellence in hosting this global program.
