SGRWorks: The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Appraisal Mission held a kickoff discussion with SGR/MoWT team today morning (Feb 16, 26) in Kampala. IsDB is a key DFI who has committed to financing SGR. Already government has kicked off its part financing under the LNTP (Euro 75m)

Under the Limited Notice To Proceed (LNTP), the contractor is already setting up a construction camp, sleeper and batching plant factory among others in Iganga District by April 2026- all with GoU financing as external financing is finalised.

Wherever possible, the SGRP will source inputs locally. Uganda has the capacity to supply cement, aggregates, and even reinforced steel and steel products that meet international standards. By aligning procurement policies with our local industrial capacity, we can ensure that Ugandan factories, quarries, and workshops are part of this historic project.
Our role as government is to ensure that clear guidelines, fair opportunities, and transparent monitoring mechanisms are in place so that no Ugandan company capable of delivering is left behind.

➡️Reduce road accidents, which currently claim over 12,000 lives annually in Uganda, many due to heavy truck traffic.

➡️Save the government billions of shillings in road maintenance costs, as bulk cargo shifts from roads to rail.
