Ralph Maier holds a Ph.D. in musicology and is currently on faculty at the University of Calgary, where he teaches classical guitar, chamber music, early music history, and music in popular culture.
Josephine van Lier is a Dutch cellist and viola da gambist who has lived in Edmonton since 1995. As founder and artistic director of Early Music Alberta, she promotes historically informed performance practices, and her instrument collection spans over 400 years.
Wendy Markosky is chair of the music department at Burman University in Lacombe, AB, where she teaches a variety of undergraduate music courses and organ, and also is caretaker for one pipe organ and two harpsichords.
Sara Staples, Mezzo Soprano, is an active performer across North America and has been hailed as singing with “remarkable warmth of tone” and “considerable interpretative power”. Sara is also passionate about arts education and is a private voice teacher and clinician in Calgary.
Mezzo-soprano Celia Raven Lee is a regular collaborator with VoiceScapes, Rosa Barocca and Luminous Voices. Celia was an alto soloist for the Calgary premieres of both Bach’s Mass in B Minor and St. John Passion at baroque pitch.
Soprano Hannah Pagenkopf has been featured extensively as a soloist and performer in her hometown Calgary and abroad. In 2020 Hannah reached the finals of the NATS Artist Awards competition in New York City, placing 2nd and winning an additional prize for “Most Promising Singer”.
Ian Bannerman has performed as an ensemble member and soloist with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, musica intima, Early Music Vancouver, Victoria Symphony, Okanogan Symphony Orchestra, Luminous Voices, and Early Music Alberta.
Julie Crouch has gratefully collaborated on numerous occasions with VoiceScapes and Early Music Voices and is happy to be singing again today. She is also a founding member of Juno nominated Luminous Voices, and sang with the award winning Spiritus Chamber Choir for 20 years.
Graeme Climie has represented Alberta in the National Youth Choir of Canada (`17 `18 `20 `22) and is a alumnus of the World Youth Choir, representing Canada on performance tours of Canada, Croatia, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Slovenia (2019-2024).
Jason Ragan is a regular member of Calgary's professional chamber choir, the Juno-nominated Luminous Voices, as well as Tenor Section principal with the CPO Chorus. Jason is a proud graduate of the McPhee Artist Development Program with Calgary Opera.
Aoife Bonaventura balances a thriving career in engineering with her passion for music and outdoor pursuits. Her collaborations with Voicescapes and Luminous Voices have highlighted her versatility as a vocalist, captivating audiences with her expressive interpretations.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Roderick Bryce was in great demand there as a baritone, teacher, vocal coach and choral director. In Edmonton Roderick is Director of Music at St Joseph’s Cathedral-Basilica and Artistic Director and CEO of A Joyful Noise Choir Association.
Soprano Julie Harris has appeared with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Toronto Consort, Opera Atelier, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Alberta Baroque (Edmonton) and La Cetra (Vancouver). Upon returning to Calgary in 1999, she founded the Early Music Voices Concert Series.
Blessed with a unique bass voice, Paul Grindlay is grateful to the amazing teachers, mentors and colleagues who have inspired and supported him on his musical journey. Paul has enjoyed thirty years of professional performances on three continents and recorded CDs for NAXOS.
Tenor Jerald Fast makes his home in Calgary after having pursued his musical career in Winnipeg, Toronto, and The Hague. While living in Holland, Jerald was invited to join the prestigious Netherlands Chamber Choir.
Soprano Christina Jahn has appeared both as a soloist and ensemble singer with leading Canadian early music groups and professional ensembles , and has co-founded two critically-acclaimed professional vocal ensembles: musica intima (Vancouver) and VoiceScapes (Calgary).
