and YEAH on the fear. SO MUCH of knives’ character is driven by fear. i love everything about him.

it IS fitting for knives to think of his human army as his clumsy tools. his primitive weapons.

they’re the method of violence he resorts to, and dislikes using. their abilities aren’t as refined or as powerful as his. they’re humanity! hence — they’re just like guns — ugh.

though knives describes himself as a knife collector, he names his collection… after GUNS.

what did he mean by this! i think GHG must be derogatory, considering his distaste for those “clumsy tools.” maybe, then, it’s an even higher compliment for legato to not receive a number

@Patocuakojuaco so true!! he says multiple times that humans are worthless, but i don’t think he fully believes that. he says it to convince vash, and maybe even to convince himself.

after all — if he can believe humans have no worth, he doesn’t have to feel conflicted about his decisions.

knives' reliance on his human weapons PROVES he values them, but him verbalizing that value is significant.

he wants to eradicate humanity, but not BECAUSE plants are superior. though they're incompatible with plant liberation, humans may still be clever, fine specimens. (5/5)

knives' treatment of conrad also follows this pattern. he relies on him and addresses him respectfully
BECAUSE conrad's "brain" is something he values and requires.

he's even willing to admit when he's been bested by him, paralleling a similar moment with rem. (4/5)

though we don't see the heights of that praise replicated — knives' mania is not frequent — he states wolfwood is doing "good work" twice, even sending a messenger to communicate that to him.

i enjoy these sentiments from the GHG. they perceive vash and knives as equally monstrous, calamitous, and indomitable. (1/5)

@Patocuakojuaco yes! the confetti symbolized the fact that he was recognized as “nicholas” by the orphanage children, while he had feared being unrecognizable due to the blood on his hands.

wolfwood had tried to change, but still believed he was irredeemable, until this moment. baptism!

@Patocuakojuaco yes, i don’t think it was nightow’s intention either! ultimately, i think these elements evoke wedding imagery, but are better linked to the broad “celebration” theme — because it’s about wolfwood’s life, more than just his and vash’s relationship. it’s like a baptism for him.

@Patocuakojuaco at first glance, i didn’t even notice that wedding imagery, but it’s been pointed out to me, and i believe it. it’s a very treasured interpretation among trigun fans.

@Patocuakojuaco though i don’t interpret vashwood romantically, i think the “bride” bottle DOES evoke wedding imagery, especially combined with the confetti, church setting, and bells.

it’s a celebration of wolfwood’s life and a confirmation that “vash and wolfwood” can’t be together (2/?)
