Disabled people deserve housing, healthcare, food & assistance.

They deserve a living wage.

They shouldn’t be forced to beg for scraps, barred from having assets or forced to justify their disability over and over

This attitude from landlords is why so many disabled people struggle to find housing.

They assume we will be home 24/7 and wreck their property faster, so they refuse to rent to us.

They never consider that sick people need a safe roof over their heads.

When disability happens to you, you won’t be able to just “try harder”.

The social supports you think magically appear? They won’t show up.

The medical system will let you down.

Friends & family will abandon you.

You will realize disability advocates were right all along.

The minimum wage was intended to be the minimum amount a full-time worker needs to afford a basic standard of living, including housing. So when people say, “That’s not what it’s meant to do,” they’re mistaken. That’s the entire point of calling it the minimum wage.

I can’t wrap my head around an economy where nursing homes cost enough to bankrupt families, yet the aides caring for our grandparents still rely on food banks. Or where daycare can consume an entire parent’s paycheck, while the people providing that care still can’t earn a living wage and need a second job. Something about that math just doesn’t add up.
