@BBCPolitics Problem is that people imagined they were paying into their pension/care (with NI), but that was never truly implemented. It was more tax and governments have spent it. It was a ponzi scheme; nothing invested. Now there’s not enough people paying in.
@JeevunSandher God, you're thick Sandher. It's exactly that issue that makes the private sector better. A bad allocation of capital is exactly what kills prosperity. All instances of centralised economies proved how bad they are at allocating capital/expenditure.
@afneil Everyone has their own way of presenting the figures - good and bad. European unity should be about a group of nations/peoples defending their shared history and culture in a world of powerful alternative entities such as China, India, USA and even Arabia.
@premnsikka Usual nonsense. The problem is who pays, who recieves and what it's all spent on. In other countries it's designed as a social insurance for all (civilised). In the UK it's designed as income redistribution (stealing from anyone who has worked hard).
@GBNEWS Being in the EU was never our problem, so leaving it was never going to solve anything. In any case, the EU is badly designed and won't survive without reform. And individual European nations won't survive easily alone. We should be part of a reformed union.
@GBNEWS The compliance rules are not enforced. This means that the honest companies/people are punished and the dishonest succeed. People think they are voting for safety, but they are getting exactly the opposite. Typical big government.
@SkyNews@cathynewman If anyone can persuade peple to vote against entrepreneurs, it's Blair's son. A man who undoubtedly got where he is in tech due to the money funnel his dad's connections provide and not due to his own brilliance. Maybe Sky knows this.
@afneil The EU was badly structured from the beginning. But the central idea, of nation states and peoples with shared history and culture standing together in a world full of large global powers such as China, America and India, is crucuial to its survival.
@moulder_fo41903@TaxJusticeUK I've heard a lot of the 'loan loophole' argument recently. But don't the loans eventually have to be paid back with interest? So it's not free money. Isn't interest on loans taxed? So does this 'loophole' just move the tax burden to the lender?
@TaxJusticeUK I thought you miserable people had finally gone away. Wealth is an unguaranteed return from putting taxed income at risk. You lot have never build anything so you don't understand risk. But when you turn up for work, you do not risk losing money.
@IPPR Capital gains are made on money put at risk. Something no politicians understands because they've never taken a risk to actually built anything. When you go to work, you don't risk losing money that day. These are completely different things.
@DavidPintoD@griffitha Labour left the country almost bankrupt in 2008 (like every time you hold office), you moaned endlessly through the non-austerity of austerity, and were gagging for longer lockdowns and more spending throughout covid. The growth is AI; despite your policies.
@JeevunSandher No, you're propping up inefficient businesses by subsidising their workforce. Classic centralised gov failure. 'Benefits' in a civilised nation should be social insurance for all not means tested income redistribution and lifestyle choices.
@JeevunSandher 'Re-industrialisation' is just the latest fever dream of power mad socialists. That boat sailed during the Blair/Brown years. The next 20 years is going to be driven by AI and robotics. And you want to take us back 70s? You're iodiotic fantacists.
@Gillieml5@DaveKent101 Are you aware that the Russia/Ukraine war started exactly when Truss became PM, hugely pushing up energy prices and driving up inflation? Your comment is very ignorant.
@UKLabour The only way to provide a modern service and support economic efficiency is to phase out all the drivers and fully automate rail. But you won't do that will you? You'll freeze fairs and raise driver wages, meaning the tax payer will pay.
@bettyboom41@DanielJHannan We were the EU. We didn't need permission to do anything. It's a club and we were members. Powerful members. Other members are soon going to back change too. Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, probably France. In a club, members decide.
@JeevunSandher I think Labour's plan is to make us all so poor that we have no option but to vote for socialism because it's impossible to earn a living. Then useless politicians who could never actually make it on their own can lord over us and decide who deserves what.
@darrenpjones You mean you get to go on the world stage and rant on about being virtuous while we get poorer and you bleed us of anything we earn and save. China and US couldn't care less what you think about AI or Nut Zero, they are not following anything. Deluded.
