What happens if we plan our transition to #renewable energy supply centrally vs. decentrally? In our project "Storage in the Loop", we investigate how decentral planning can distribute renewable capacity more evenly and what the trade-offs in terms of costs are. Stay tuned!
Happy new year! We'll start the year with a teaser for upcoming research related to #AI and #Energy: We're developing a storage agent that handles service requests for multi-use applications using deep-reinforcement-learning. Stay tuned for results coming (hopefully) soon!
(Home) Battery installations hit a record number of 112,000 in Germany in 2021! To fully exploit this huge potential, sharing and multi-use should be supported for BESS. Learn more in our #AppliedEnergy paper on a sharing economy for residential prosumers https://t.co/Y3VTKUQKp9
#2: In 2030, 50% of heat should be produced from renewable sources. #Koalitionsvertrag
- An ambitious goal, as German renewable heat production is currently at ~15%. Electrification of the heat sector is a key to achieving this target: https://t.co/eO0HGniwjg
The coalition agreement of the new German government is out! This week, we will share the most relevant aspects for energy policy. #1: #Storage will (finally) be defined as fourth pillar of the energy system (besides generation, consumption and transportation). #Koalitionsvertrag

Is this the most important paper of the year? If you ask people to switch to marginally more costly clean energy, 3% do so. If you make it the default choice, 80% stick with it. We need to make choosing the polluting alternative an active decision.

Really insightful article from the Microsoft #AI research team on understanding the workings of
Ensemble Models, Knowledge Distillation and Self-distillation.
Last week, we had the chance to present “Particity”, our winning contribution from the C/sells Climathon, at the annual Regensburger Energy Congress. Our vision is to involve citizens in the #urban#mobility transition by enabling crowd investments for charging stations.
In our new paper we analyze the optimal geographic set-up of #hydrogen supply chains incl. feedback effects on the grid. We find that H2 production in Northern GER reduces total system costs. This could be incentivized w/ spatially resolved tariffs/subsidies.

Yesterday was the last day of a successful #HICSS 2021 where we presented three papers: @ener_SHE introduced heuristic strategies to hedge the financial risk of a renewable operator using storage. Find out more here: https://t.co/bHel1bPbQL
How can we support decision-makers in local #energy communities in the installation of appliances such as heat pumps? We present a solution using evolutionary #algorithms that considers economical and ecological objectives simultaneously! #HICSS#hicss54
