**!!!ATTENTION!!!**
This post serves as a caution for anyone currently working with—or planning to work with—musicians, audio engineers, or record labels based in Japan.
As of today, and based on broad agreement among tech-savvy X users and artist Ichiro Yamaguchi of the band Sakanaction, the term “compressed audio” has been informally redefined. In addition to its conventional meanings, it is now also being used to describe any audio recording that has been down-converted from its original master. For example, a 44.1 kHz / 16-bit file created from a 96 kHz master may now be referred to as a form of “compressed audio.”
Please exercise extra care when using this term in conversations with individuals whose first or only language is Japanese, as misunderstandings can lead to serious miscommunication, dispute or financial loss.
