Every day I sit in Katie's room.
An orbit light has never gone out because Katie will always be the light of our home.
These are my reflections on grief, faith, and the hope that sustains us until we meet again.

As I sit in Katie's room; the room that never should have existed, the room we were forced to create after reckless public policies ignored the tradeoffs and forever changed our lives. I come here because it's the closest I can feel to her.

I sit quietly and try to imagine we're together again, talking the way we used to before she was killed. For a moment, I can almost convince myself she's still here.

There is an orbit light that shines over Katie's room every hour of every day. I never turn it off. Some people might wonder why. Katie will always be the light of our home. It feels wrong for the room that holds her memory to ever be dark.

I don't ever want to sit with her in darkness because she has always been my bright light. Perhaps that's why I find such comfort in Christ's promise: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5). The darkness of grief is real, but it will never overcome the light Katie brought into our lives, or the hope we have in Him.

People often ask if I'm afraid to speak out. The truth is, these days I don't fear much of anything. When you've already lived through your greatest nightmare, the things that once seemed intimidating lose their power.

But there is one fear that remains.
I fear the fading memories.

I fear the day her voice isn't as clear in my mind. I fear struggling to remember the sound of her laughter, the little expressions that made her uniquely Katie. I'd give every tomorrow I have for just one more moment to hear her voice today. Especially at night, when the house becomes so quiet that the silence itself feels deafening.

Until the Lord calls me home, memory is all I have. But my hope isn't in memory alone, it's in God's promise. As the Apostle Paul wrote, "For now we see through a glass, darkly... but then face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12). Because of Christ, I know memory is not the end of our story. One day faith will become sight, and I won't have to imagine Katie's voice anymore, I will hear it again.

Sometimes I'm almost afraid to go to sleep. I'm so weary, yet every passing day feels like another day farther away from her. Time, which everyone says is supposed to heal, sometimes feels like it's quietly carrying pieces of her voice farther from my reach.

So I fight to hold onto every memory I have. And even if time softens those memories, God's promise never will. The day is coming when I will no longer have to search my heart for the sound of Katie's voice. I will hear it again, not as a fading memory, but face to face.

And what makes this burden even harder to carry is knowing it did not have to happen. Those entrusted with leadership made reckless choices while dismissing the costs. They ignored the tradeoffs. Families like mine are left to build rooms for their daughters instead of watching them build lives of their own.

Those responsible move on to their next speech, their next campaign, their next press conference. They return to their lives while ours remains forever divided into before and after. We remain here, trying to preserve every memory, every laugh, every word, trusting that while this world took Katie from our sight, it cannot take her from God's hands. And because of that promise, I know the last time I heard her voice will not be the last time I hear it.

This video is a great case study on the fake news.

2018. Jake Tapper puts out a video "fact checking" claims by Pence and Pompeo that it was the opinion of the intelligence agencies that Russia did not affect the outcome of the 2016 election.

Tapper said the intelligence agencies never made an assessment if Russia affected the outcome of the election. That was his important fact check.

Tapper had no idea that he was citing a completely bogus intelligence report that was created to undermine the Trump presidency. Not that he or CNN would have ever questioned anything put out by the Obama admin.

On the other hand, Trump puts out info on China and CNN immediately starts trying to debunk it.

Tapper didn't fact check any of the hundreds of Democrats who claimed that Russia did affect the outcome of the election. Just those claiming it didn't. He sure loved that Russia hoax.

Do it doesn’t matter if the driver knew or not; they will be prosecuted
