@CynicalPublius Brings to mind 2017 incident in which Uber CEO Travis Kalanick got into an argument with a driver and got out of Uber saying (paraphrasing) “why don’t you take responsibility for your own life.”
@jeffreytucker My 2014 car has actual buttons for radio and AC, harasses you for not wearing seat belt only once, and has door handles that don’t recess into the car door.
I plan to keep it for ever.
We are in the first stages of secession.
Mamdani considers New York an independent city-state, with it's own foreign policy, immigration policy, and economic policy. He does not recognize the legitimacy of the federal government or even the United States as a nation to any extent beyond that which his party can directly control or benefit from financially.
He does not talk about himself as an American, nor does he speak of New York as a component of the United States. Quite the opposite, in fact.
And aside from his official portraits, he is never voluntarily photographed with or around an American flag. And he is WAY too conscious of optics for that to be anything other than deliberate.
He (and the DSA with him) will use the power of this city to wage a soft civil war against the nation itself.
It is LONG PAST TIME for an appropriately severe reaction from the federal government. The Constitution is not a suicide pact. This is not politics, this is the enemy.
@MichelleSaidel Why is it that coffee shop owners are overwhelmingly politically to the left?
There has to be a rational explanation on this. HAS TO BE!
@CynicalPublius Josh McDowell was promoting new book The New Tolerance. He said “tolerance today means forcing people to accept anything and everything except what the people who preach tolerance choose to not tolerate.”
I saw him say this on The 700 Club 23+ years ago.
Let me explain why I think Freddy resonates.
Lots of Europeans visit the USA as tourists. They visit New York City, or Washington DC, or Hollywood, or Las Vegas, and if they visit natural beauty too, they go to really crowded places like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.
So while they see our cultural and natural icons, they are mostly in blue cities and they therefore also see the decline, the homeless, the drugs, the dirt and the rude, rude Americans.
But Freddy is not doing that. Freddy is driving, and he’s doing it through the heartland, where people are kind and polite, the skies are wide open, and the bounty of Buc-ees and Bass Pro Shops are overwhelming.
Freddy is not seeing fentanyl and decline.
He is seeing the real, hopeful, patriotic, kind America that European tourists rarely traverse.
And he loves it.
That’s why Freddy is a phenomenon.
A wise man once said, if you want to hate America, watch the news. If you want to love America, drive across it.
These European World Cup tourists are experiencing the REAL America for the first time: not New York City or LA, but middle America and all its hospitality. 🇺🇸
@JoeConchaTV The View has a podcast?! 😲😳
I imagine its key demo are people who think Katie Porter should be both governor and wife of the year award recipient.
@MatthewParrott@jerr_rrej There was even an episode where Elaine met new clique of friends that was the “normal equivalent” to Jerry, George, and Kramer.
Episode title is “The Bizarro Jerry” (Season 8, Episode 3).
This is how an authoritarian can create perverse incentives for destroying the criminal justice system.
The promotion of Mr Chau as the next Hong Kong Director of Public Prosecutions sends a really bad signal to the Department of Justice’s entire Prosecution Division.
By promoting the leading and by far the most relentless of National Security cases prosecutors, the HK authorities is telling all full time prosecutors that if they want career prospects in the DoJ, it is no longer good enough to be nailing fraudsters, murderers, rapists, gangsters and drug traffickers. Instead, one must debase and taint oneself by taking on the task of political persecution. And even trying to do no more than the bare minimum in this regard to keep one’s career won’t do - one must do it with gusto and glee as Mr Chau has done throughout.

@parscale Looking back, can’t help but wonder if Trump renamed Gulf of America knowing full well it would play an even bigger role in the world’s energy market.
I’m watching the Trump visit to China and I’m comparing notes.
I’ve been on several presidential international trips. I’ve been a member of the entourage. Allow me a moment and a word. I’m watching the Trump visit to China and I’m comparing notes.
What a difference strong, competent leadership makes! This isn’t the same America shuffling through scripted photo-ops and whispered apologies. This is a President who commands respect, surrounded by a Cabinet of proven executives, patriots, and deal-makers who actually put America First.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio negotiating with the clarity of someone who understands both power and principle. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth projecting strength without bluster. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outmaneuvering economic adversaries at the table. A team of battle-tested leaders—Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at HHS restoring trust in public health, Doug Burgum securing our energy dominance, and so many more—who were chosen for excellence, not loyalty to the swamp.
No more cabinet filled with placeholders and ideologues. These are results-oriented Americans who show up prepared, speak plainly, and deliver for our country. Watching our delegation move with purpose in Beijing reminds me why elections matter. We went from weakness and drift to strength and strategy.
God bless this President and this Cabinet. America is back—and the world knows it.
@GregHilburn1 I listened to Jim Croce growing up but had no idea he died young in a plane crash until today.
Enjoyed your 2023 article posted on Shreveport Times website about what happened along with the BTS stories.
Your smart TV is taking screenshots of your screen every 15 seconds.
Not a guess. Not a theory.
A peer-reviewed study by researchers at UC Davis, UCL, and UC3M tested it.
Samsung TVs: every minute.
LG TVs: every 15 seconds.
Even when you're just using it as a monitor.
Here's how to turn it off for every brand:
