The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has announced the appointment of Professor Frednand Gideon as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Board Chairperson Leake Hangala said the decision followed a rigorous and transparent recruitment process, led by the Joint Search Committee of the NUST Council and supported by an external executive recruitment agency.
Professor Gideon brings a wealth of experience in academia, research, and institutional governance. He has over 25 years of experience in academia, including 17 years in academic leadership and 11 years in executive leadership. He has served on the Council for approximately 14 years and has been a member of the Senate for about 17 years. Furthermore, Professor Gideon has served on six external boards and has acted as vice-chancellor on numerous occasions.
The appointment of Professor Gideon is effective as of August 1, 2026. He succeeds Professor Andrew Niikondo, who has served in an acting capacity since October 2025.
