The first batch of 20 CNG buses has arrived in Akwa Ibom as part of the 50 ordered by Governor Umo Eno to modernize public transportation across the state.
Beyond the buses, the next phase includes bus terminals, GPS tracking, and a modern ticketing system to make public transport safer, more reliable, and easier to use.
This is more than a transport project. CNG buses are cheaper to operate, produce fewer emissions than diesel, and help lower transportation costs over time. Combined with the state’s expanding road network, Akwa Ibom is gradually building a more efficient and sustainable transport system for its people.
Never complain, never explain.
Stay quiet and accept the pain.
Not because it doesn’t hurt, not because you’re strong every day, but because some battles can’t be won with words.
The more you explain yourself, the more people misunderstand you.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government and its partners to the realization of the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project following a high-level technical engagement and working session
Yesterday, I commissioned five impactful projects in Oron Local Government Area, including a Model Primary Health Centre, Youth Development Centre, newly constructed roads with discharge drains, and a new administrative building at the Local Government Council headquarters. I also flagged off the construction of internal roads within the council secretariat.

I commend the Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, Hon. Okon Asukwo Enmewe, for his dedication, hard work, and commitment to service. I also appreciate all our local government chairmen for partnering with us to bring development closer to the people.
I thank the good people of Oro Nation for the endorsement, warm reception, and continued support for our administration. We will continue to work for the growth, peace, and development of our dear State.

Governor @_PastorUmoEno , has announced the creation of a full Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development in Akwa Ibom State.
Pending the appointment of a Commissioner for the new ministry, the Managing Director of Ibom Airport Development Company has been directed to oversee its affairs in an interim capacity.
I returned from the maiden international flight from Accra to Uyo with a deep sense of joy at what we have achieved with the Victor Attah International Airport.
This will open up more opportunities in tourism, trade, and investment, and make it easier for us to connect with other countries within the sub-region. It also puts Uyo in a strong position to host more conferences and business activities.
To give this sector greater focus, I have directed the creation of a standalone Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development, and have appointed Engr. Uwem Ekanem to oversee the ministry pending the appointment of a substantive Commissioner. @ibomairlines will also receive a new Airbus A220 in June as we continue to expand our fleet and strengthen our aviation capacity.
I appreciate His Excellency, @officialABAT President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation, @fkeyamo Festus Keyamo, SAN, for their support. I also acknowledge past leaders who laid the foundation for this achievement.
We will continue to build on this progress and ensure it brings real value to our people.

FROM UYO: FOR THE FIRST TIME
By: Richard Okon
Akwa Ibom State has once again etched its name in history with the successful maiden international flight from the brand-new smart neo- terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport, VAIA, Uyo, after its certification to handle international operations by Nigeria's aviation authorities, to the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana, on May 2, 2026.
This landmark event goes far beyond the symbolism of a maiden flight. It represents the practical realization of a bold aviation vision, one that has transformed aspiration into reality and infrastructure into economic opportunity. For Akwa Ibom, this is not just a takeoff; it is a declaration of readiness to engage the world on its own terms.
This significant achievement is profound in many ways;
First, it establishes Akwa Ibom as a strategic player in regional aviation connectivity. A direct Uyo - Accra route, just like many other routes that will follow, will open a vital corridor between Nigeria and some of Africa’s most dynamic economies, as well as the rest of the world, unlocking new opportunities for trade, tourism, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. This connection will reduce travel barriers, enhance mobility, and strengthen economic integration across the subregion, and the globe at large.
Secondly, it signals the coming of age of Ibom Air as a regional aviation force. In less than six years, the airline has evolved from a bold state initiative into one of Nigeria’s most respected carriers, known for safety, punctuality, and service excellence. With this inaugural international operation from her own base airport, Ibom Air has demonstrated capacity, credibility, and ambition, proving that a government-owned airline can compete effectively beyond domestic borders.
Thirdly, the use of the newly completed smart neo- terminal building underscores the deliberate alignment between infrastructure investment and economic outcomes. Designed with cutting-edge technology, automated systems, and passenger-centric features, the terminal is not just a https://t.co/QHHbMeYeri is a gateway engineered for efficiency, comfort, and global standards. It positions Akwa Ibom to handle increased passenger traffic and international operations with ease.
During the inaugural flight, the Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Festus Kayamo, SAN, had this to say; “What you have at Victor Attah International Airport is not just a terminal building, it is a transit hub. Nothing like it exists at any sub-national level anywhere in the country. This is not the best, it is the only one of its kind. There is no basis for comparison because there is no other.”
This milestone did not happen by chance. Under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom has pursued a deliberate and integrated aviation strategy, building on the solid foundation laid by previous administrations.
Today, the VAIA stands as one of the most advanced aviation ecosystems in West Africa, featuring:
🔥A world-class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility
🔥A cargo and logistics terminal designed to boost exports
🔥A Category II runway supporting both passenger and cargo aircraft
🔥An Aviation Village with training institutions and residential facilities
🔥A modern Airport Clinic meeting international safety standards
🔥A VIP Hangar for executive and private aviation
🔥A multi-lane expressway linking the airport seamlessly to Uyo
🔥And now, a fully operational smart terminal serving as the hub of international travel
These investments are no longer projections, they are now actively enabling real economic activity, as demonstrated by today’s inaugural flight.
This international flight action marks the beginning of a new economic chapter for Akwa Ibom State.

GOV ENO COMMENDS FRONTLINE SUPPORTER OVER EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has applauded the progenitor and President of Ibom Youth Future Development Initiative, Mr Anthony Edem, for his youth empowerment initiative and support for the ARISE Agenda.
Speaking at the empowerment of selected youths across the State held at St. Peters Primary School, Mbiabong Etoi, Uyo, the Governor said his decision to personally attend the event was to honour the President for his selfless sacrifice, commitment to youth empowerment and support for the ARISE Agenda of his administration.
Governor Eno described Mr Edem as a silent achiever with immeasurable impact within the last three years of his administration.
"This is not his first empowerment. I am duly informed that he has been doing this regularly. He has his group, and we can all see them here well dressed in their attires.
"He has been doing all this with his personal efforts, and since I was informed that he was going to hold another one today, I decided to come and witness it myself. Thank you for your support," he said.
The Governor emphasized on the need for selflessness and urged Akwa Ibom People to emulate Mr Edem, and also urged the leadership of ARISE with Renewed Hope Initiative to co-opt IYFDI as one of its sub-groups.
Earlier in his remark, the President of the Group, Mr. Anthony Edem appreciated the Governor and other dignitaries for sparing time to witness and support the initiative.
He described the programme as a routine activity, fueled by the passion to accelerate growth and enhance productivity amongst the youths.
He appreciated the Governor, whom he said is their grand patron, for his humility and fatherly leadership and pledged the support of the group for the re-election of the Governor in 2027.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, thanked the Governor for identifying with the leadership of the group, which he said is focused on supporting the Governor in line with the vision of the ARISE Agenda.
He also commended Mr Edem for his passion for youth development describing him as a public spirited individual as exemplified by his empowerment programmes.
Some of the empowerment items included industrial sewing machines, mini buses, as well as bags of rice.
I joined the Akwa Ibom State University community at its Combined Convocation Ceremony in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin.
I congratulate the graduands on their success and charge them to be innovative, think differently, and embrace entrepreneurship. The world rewards those who dare to dream and create solutions.
I commend the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oto-Abasi Akpan, and the university leadership for their progress in positioning AKSU among the leading universities in the South-South.
As a government, we remain committed to preparing our young people for the future through quality education, ICT, creativity, and enterprise.
Congratulations once again to all graduands.
I inspected the Ewet Luxury Gardens Experience Centre in Uyo and confirmed that the 35-unit luxury duplex estate will soon be ready for use.
The project is a high-quality, government-backed residential development designed to provide modern housing opportunities for the middle class, with standard solar systems and premium facilities.
I am pleased with the progress made and commend the contractor for delivering the Experience Centre as promised. By the grace of God, handover to owners should commence in the coming weeks.
GOV ENO OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS, AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENTS, HOUSES TO LESS PRIVILEGED TO MARK 62ND BIRTHDAY
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has offered scholarships, automatic employments, houses and other juicy gifts to occupants of different orphanages and charity homes in the State to mark his 62nd birthday.
Speaking at a special birthday celebration held at Divine Children's Home, Atan Offot, Uyo, the Governor said he chose to celebrate his 2026 birthday with the less privileged in the State, and to renew their hope that background cannot stand as a barrier to their God-designed destinies.
"We are here to encourage them, and to give them hope. For me this is renewed hope, and we urge them to ARISE with Renewed Hope for their tomorrow is here, and their tomorrow will be better. That they will know that they are not rejected, they are not desolate, we are with them and that gives me a happy birthday."
He said since assumption of office, he has always dedicated his birthdays to showing compassion to the less privileged. He appreciated everyone who has reached out to the less privileged, downtrodden or impacted their communities on his birthday.
"Everytime a retired civil servant sends me a text thanking me for receiving gratuity, I feel accomplished. When I see a widow who had lived in a place that could be likened to a rat hole but now a beneficiary of the over 400 compassionate homes that we have built, I feel accomplished . When former political foes, sit to break bread, eat and shake hands across divides and our state remains peaceful, I feel very accomplished. That is the love that keeps us going as a State.
"Thank God for the projects, thank God for the roads and the bridges. But for me, the greatest accomplishment is to make us live in peace amongst ourselves, and live together in unity; learn to forgive one another and move on as a State, that is who we are and that is what gives us joy.
"So we continue to ask our people to live together in peace even as the political season sets in. Politics will come and go but Akwa Ibom will remain, and so we should play politics with a human face," he said.
The Governor appreciated the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare and care givers for their good works at the homes.
On the 22 children abandoned by their parents, he said "no child is born by accident, every child has a purpose and God doesn't make mistakes. We have taken these children, we will nurture them and we will help them realize their destinies."
For all the 22 care givers who were volunteers, as well as four others who were fully grown, he directed the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Peters to give them automatic employment in the civil service.
For another 15 of them that had finished vocational school, he directed that they be engaged for further training at the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Center, as well as Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, further directing that on completion, they be given starter packs and shops accordingly.
He also directed the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to offer them proper accomodations outside the homes so they can begin their lives.
The Governor also approved an automatic overseas postgraduate scholarship for one of the inmates, Abigail Okon Edet and also directed that two other graduates who were already working with the State Civil Service be given a house each.
He warned against the proliferation of orphanages in the State, stressing that necessary requirements must be met and called on well-meaning Akwa Ibomites to keep supporting the less privileged in the State.
Advising the children further he said, "I came to give you hope, and to say ARISE with Renewed Hope. Your future is guaranteed. God will take care of you. Not to have parents should not deny you of your destinies." .....
