Behind every slow lorry on Masaka Road sits an impatient driver doing the maths in his head, trying to save 30 seconds against his own life.

Then he pulls out to overtake in a corner he cannot see past. That solid line in the middle of the road is not for decoration. Somebody painted it exactly there because they could see what the corner hides from you. You cannot see the trailer. The trailer cannot see you. And at highway speeds, the gap closes so fast that nobody gets a chance to react.

Most times you slip back in safely and that luck is the real trap, because it teaches you the gamble pays, right up until that one corner hiding a trailer doing 100kph the other way. Now neither of you has anywhere to go. The whole road shrinks to a single terrible second.

Uganda lost over 5,000 people on our roads last year and many died overtaking into a space they only assumed was empty...

The digital number plate you pay for today might be delivered to you in 2027 because the @MoWT_Uganda isn’t bothered, right now you can’t buy a car in Uganda unless you’re buying an old one. The number plates are out of stock and the manufacturer is bothered or even not in good terms with the contractors.
